Storing Buffing Compound

Post by HvR »

What is the best way to store buffing compound once you have opened it?

I rememeber something about storing it in the refrigerator or the freezer?

What would you recommend?

zip lock freezer bag. You are really only protecting it from drying out.

Get the good zip lock bags and not the cheap ass versions. I assume you are speaking of the greaseless compounds. Store it in the freezer if you are having problems with it becoming too 'liquidly'. Getting it cold should solidify it and make it easier to apply to the wheel.

Yes,

I am just starting to experiment with the greaseless compounds.

Thanks for the tip!

I just put them in a plastic bag. If they get hard I just soak the end in a coffee can with water in it.
Softens up quickly.

Thanks, just went and grabbed some, and the seal of the container they were in leaked and the compound is hard as a brick. Guess I don't need to kill it quite yet.

I am on my 2nd. batch now, greaseless as seem in TOMAR.

The first batch got to hot in the Texas summer and melted.
Do not store all the different compounds in the same bag :-(

Worst of all was the odor from the slime bag.

Definitely organic.
Spoiled cow hooves, feces and vegetation.

Did mention it stinks?

Put a damp paper towl in the ziplock with the compound to keep it moist. If it dries out completely it seems to never be the same again.
