Yep. Bacinets had them in the early 14th century.

There are a few similar examples in the BNF's St. Denis manuscripts of 1317.

Thanks!

I am looking for sources with nasals that are part of the helmet brow or rigidly attached like the image from BNF's St. Denis manuscript. I did a bit of a "brain fart" and forgot about the bretache style padded nasals. : )

Any additional info out there about this helm style? All the art seems to show lesser men at arms wearing 'em. Also, I'm pretty darn sure that no effigies or brasses that depict a helm like this.

There's always the semi-fixed "klapp-nasal" images from St. Abbondio.

MAybe you can get some high resolution pictures somewhere, but in those two pictures there is at least one soldier wearing kettle hat with eye cut outs resulting in a nasal on the deep brimmed hat. The paintings are northern Italian of the late 14th century.

The one thats in the Landesmuseum in Zurich is removable. I have tried three times to get photos of this helmet, but I have been unable to all three times. The nasal is very unique in design with holes drilled/punched into the lower edge for breathing. I have not seen this feature on any other helmets from the period.
