New helmet!! Shamrock Armoury Review...
Thanks to ~~**Shamrock Armoury**~~ for creating this!! Now I can say bye bye to the old loaner helmet of doom and say hello to my first helmet that I can call my *own*!!
Got the helmet in the mail on Monday, padded it up and wore it out to practice yesterday at Duke Logan's. I am very happy with it and wanted to show off my pictures of it... this is when it was straight out of the box.
The best feature I liked was the that cheek plates are hinged. So the helmet fits on my face (after padding it) with no need for a chin strap. The pin in the front holds the two plates closed.

That helm is definitely sexy (and, it was great to meet you Rohesia!
)
Did you decide to put a little more padding in?

I'm debating about how I am going to do it. I have a round piece of camp foam at the very top and the rest is a slightly softer camp foam. I've thought about cutting up my yoga mat that I never use.
Hopefully you can come back up soon!

I JUST posted this on the armour forum for another who is asking how to pad their helm:

(on Pennsic) I know that movie. It is the 13th warrior. A bunch of guys in armour that doesn't match itself or anybody elses, go on a trip and argue and get drunk and get laid and then fight Tuchux.

Hey thanks! I like how you laid out the diagram...I didn't think about doing it in "strips"... currently it is one big foam coif and the cheek panels are seperate...
But I have one question to your way of padding.... How bad does it ring when you are hit? I imagine there has to be some if there are significant spaces in the lining.
Thx,
Roh

Actually, the preponderance of ringing in a helmet has little to do with how you pad it.
If your helm rings a lot, you have other issues to deal with. Short of lining the helm in Dynamat, no padding will really take the ring out. There are other fixes, but simply adding padding won't.
I have had helms that ring and this style padding works fine in them to. However, as I said, you will need to remove the ring via another option like drilling a hole in the helm or gluing a strip of leather inside etc.

Or maybe that's just my take on it!
me too, I just couldn't put it to words.
