Splinted Arms

Post by Anton »

For those of you who fight with splinted arms, have you had any problems? I fight with solid steel vambraces now, and they're falling apart. I'm looking to buy new ones, and am wondering if the splinted ones are strong enough. Will they take a polearm hit? Anyone out there care to comment?

Thanks!

I have leather vambraces with hidden splints and they work fine. (of course I liked just the leather but some marshalls did not think it offered enough protection) Ive never gotten anything more than a bruise with mine but a lot of it will depend on the weight of the leather and the material/thickness of the splints.

Mine are just 9oz leather with no splints and they work fine. Ive never broken an arm through them.

i started in steel vambraces, swithced to splinted leather, 10 oz with abs splints on the inside, then lined with suede, very comfy very protective, held up well, now ive switched to just 10/12 oz leather vams that lace closed, ive made the overlap area of the vam where it lace over the bone for a little extra protection and im happy with the results, although i do tend to wear less armour than alot of people

I am currently using one-piece leather vambraces. I hope to soon change them over to splinted. Weight varies between maybe 9 and 12 oz. They are unhardened. Wearing a somewhat heavy gambeson sleeve underneath.

Being a new fighter (and fighting in a shire where half the fighters are leftie), I was taking several hits a night on my forearm for quite a while. Now I am much better and guarding/blocking those hits.

When I was getting hit... bruises were common. Early one, I was probably getting a few bruises on the bones as well; had a knot in the middle of my arm that took 3 months to go away.

For calibration comparison: Midrealm, Middle Kingdom.

Funny, I wear 5-7 oz unpadded vams with a few bits of metal here & there. Haven't had an arm bruise yet. I guess my long-ass ken doll arms make a hard target.
