Ymir Format revisited?

Post by Dietrich von Stroheim »

Last year around this time we had a good discussion here on the Archive that resulted in what I considered to be a truly rocking tourney format for Ymir:

Round robin lists of 10, with the top two fighters in each list advancing into a double elim finalists tourney.

Was probably the most fun tourney I've ever fought in, and I will totally make the 6.5 hour drive to do it again this year if it is similar.

On the other hand, if the format ends up being the dreaded ax and round shields? Not so much so.

Does anyone know what the format will be this year?

Ymir had two marshals in charge, myself or Gaston, for about 14 years. There was one year when someone else ran it. I think it was Cuan.

This year, my friend Baron Otto is running the field. He is a great marshal and good people. I would suppose it will be a lot of fun.

The format last year was indeed awesome to marshal. I have been trying to fight in an Ymir for some time. The last Ymir I fought in was 2002, when I was knighted. Sine then, I have marshaled every Ymir as either MiC or supporting staff, with the exception of 2008.

I wanted a turn to fight, and then contracted a long-term illness. Go figure.

WT, double elim with weapons of choice works for me. I tend to enjoy most any tourney format that allows me to bring my best, not so much the wonky 'all contestants must wield a madu in their left hand and a bearded ax in their right'.

Sorry to hear about the illness, Falcone. I hope you are able to fight this one.

I'm definitely looking forward to Ymir this year, and winning it is one of my SCA-related New Years resolutions, so I'll be bringing my A-game (or reasonable facsimile thereof!)

Im pretty sure what they mean, sir knight, is that the last one to freeze both of their bollocks off wins.

Looks like there was a mistake in the on line flyer. This is from Sir Otto, the armoured MIC:

"Sorry, I hadn’t read the flyer until I say your message yesterday.

When I was asked by James to run the heavy fighting we had discussed a different format… multiple round-robin “podsâ€
