WTB low profile knees/legs for SCA under chausses
WTB low profile knees/legs for SCA under chausses
I'm working on a Mac Bible foot soldier kit, but need SCA-legal knee protection. Want to wear it under chausses. I can hide the body armor under the gambeson easy enough. Any suggestions/recommendations?

The easy answer would be go forwards 25 years or and just have external poleyns. I dunno how tied you feel to the specific date of the Mac Bible, so you may or may not want to actually do that. Chausses are supposed to be pretty tight-fitting, there's not really a graceful way to hide armour under them and keep any semblance of the right profile.
If you want motocross knees and greaves or something like that, though, I've got a pair that I'd be willing to sell you. They've got Stonekeep spring steel cops sewn in, size B.
Like these:
Except with the knees substituted for Stonekeep spring cops. I've even got a matching pair of lower arms (also including Stonekeep cops) if you want those too.

This is an issue I have been toying with. Under chausses just wont look right because of the bulk. An unteste solution I have thought of is elongating the tunic worn under an aketon so that it reaches just bellow the knees. Then wear a small pair of knee cops painted the same colour as the chausses (black would work best) and have sewn pockets for splints on the thighs.
I wear plastic knee cops and street hockey pants under my gambossed cuisses and I don't feel it looks that bulky.

I wear stonekeep size C spring steel knees, with a canvas & splint cuisse, all under pants. Very low profile. I glued (and later added some stitches (and broke my 1/16" Whitney punch! Grr!)) a 1" wide strip of leather, folded over the edge, all around the edge of each cop. This helps keep it from cutting up the fabric.
