Can you provide a source for the formed faceplate? I've only been able to find the straight face in extant pieces. The style you present appears to be more of an artistic style from a modern armourer. So far I've been unable to find any extant versions of it ...

that is a very nice hat, the picture of the gabs in the back after you lift the mail seem to be more than half an inch? Are you making sure your building to SCA specs?

Half an inch?

Where did you read that for openings on a helmet?

Any gap in the helm must be one inch or smaller. And any weapon designed must be 1 and 1/4 inch wide, with no part being able to penetrate more than 1/2 inch through an opening.

This helmet manufactured by the sketch of the customer, but not fit to him. :(

All holes on the face plate less than 1 inch, extra neck protection plates (they are partially visible in the photo, completely hidden under aventail).

The helmet is very comfortable and the level of protection comparable to any fully closed helmet (grand bascinet, great helm etc.)

It doesn't matter if they are hidden under the aventail. If they are larger than 1" they will not pass SCA standards as I read our rule set. Other martials can correct me if I am wrong.

The rules state that you cannot let a 1 " dowel pass into the helm. If it is covered by mail, that cannot happen.
Thanks,

The big gap won't fly. Daggers. Won't pass.

Maxim did my fluted phrygian as well - ended up having to add an additional slat to mine to make it legal:

Thats the SCA for you. They won't pass helmets with a 1" + gap when mail covers it, but they will pass a gorget + helmet combo with a 1" + gap when its covered by mail....

You may want to modify the original post stating that you've changed the neck protection and there are no holes, visible or otherwise, more than one inch.

On a side note...it's pretty. Had I not just purchased my own Phryingian I might pick up that one...it's awful sweet. :)
