For those of us who wish to talk about the many styles and facets of recreating Medieval armed combat.

Thinking of starting a tounament company in So Cal

Post by ARMOURERERIC »

Now that it is new years I kinda got the inkling to start a tournament company. I'm more thinking of not doing live steel, but using wasters. Would set up practice somewhere along the CA 78 freeway corridor. Anyone in San Diego or Los Angeles remotely interested.

Bob Charron's advice would be worth its weight in gold for anyone doing this - he spent a great deal of time discussing combat systems with us when he came down for the St Olaf event, and he has some very useful ideas backed up by a great deal of hands-on experience.

I'd also post on the St Olaf and St Maurice forums and see what ideas are tossed around. Both are very concerned with recreating a proper period tournament, but are otherwise pretty neutral concerning steel / wasters / rattan.I expect that we'll eventually decide to keep all three, for their different purposes.

Eric-

From an SCA standpoint, one exhists right here in So. Cal. already, the Company of Saint George. If you're interested in starting completely from the ground up, I understand, the journey itself is much of the fun, but we do have a great foundation as far as a very period encampment, tourney equipment (picket, etc.) and very enthusiastic members. We fight using ratan, but the introduction of wasters would be very interesting. I can only speak for myself, but the inclusion of another fighter who loves period tournament as much as we do would be great to have around. I have included some links to pictures of our last big Pas at GWW5.

As a member of St Olaf's I welcome you to the Tourney Company community. Myself and I hope other members of St O's are working on a Tourney Company for Dummies type book. Sort of a book consisting of short articles similar to the Known World handbook. We will be hopefully providing the book free of charge over the internet and maybe even print a few out for sell at the cost of printing at events. With that being said I will keep you updated as to the progress and anyone reading this is welcome to contribute an article.

also check out the SA website it has tons of links to information about Tourney Companies
