I hope I'm not picking at a scab on this but you wrote

I don't know how to tell you this but I see plate cuisses dinged to hell at every tournament, and frequently at practice, so from an SCA viewpoint it isn't that big a thing from your POV it is.
As to the coutier bending around your knee I have seen it happen often enough to be fairly wary of it. Regrettably when it does happen it is usually a fairly major incident As I'm sure you agre)
Question is there any sort of luting, dishing, or roping on the "fan" area of the knee to strengthen it? If not it's a reasonably easy alteration, and will do a great job strenghtening a structually weak area.
For the SCA memebers of this discussion yes - I do live in the southern region of the East kindom, and I do think we hit a bit too hard

Mordreth - no, actually those legs & arms were sold last year in Michigan for next-to-nothing, as they had suffered about a dozen falls from horseback. I replaced them with stainless steel gothic fluted arms & legs from Alan Bauldri about two years ago. That is what Vitus, Mordoch, Conrad & Bob Hurley have seen me fight in.
If you hit that hard, IMHO you are hitting too hard. I've had disgraceful blows delivered by other people in live steel groups, see my posts on the mail or on the 13th C. barrel helm. But this was the only time that I remember in the SCA that this was done, including all the times I fought (and was beaten by, I've never beat him one-on-one) Palymar.

Hit too hard, I agree.
The problem is that the standard for this area is such that you train to it, or you spend a great deal of time staring at clouds, or grass (depending on how you landed)
Given my armor preferences I would love a ligher calibration, but don't see that happening in the near future

Greetings to all. This is my first post to this forum and hopefully will not be my last.

I enjoy the SCA having been a member for 23 years now. I have to agree that we are not a re-enactment group as a whole. There are many of the members who really do try to re-enact a certain time frame/society section. There are others who just want to 'play'. I like to think I am one of the former but I always have much to learn it seems.

I do like the discription of Sarnac. A social club....very interesting but holding more truth than when first read. We are a big club and we do have many different reactions.

We are not on the whole a doggedly accurate (or for some of us even close) historical re-enactment organization although, I have met some very very accurate and increadible individuals and some are very scholarly and respected outside of the SCA. I have also encountered the opposite side of the coin....didn't say I enjoyed it, but it is thier club too.

I look forward to participation in this forum.

Both Volcheka and I were supposed to come there tonight, but she has to do mundane vet work (kill lots of sheep and preserve things) and so we plan on being at fighter practice next Tuesday. I am hoping that I can pick up a blade sometime this month and begin working out the kinks from the surgury. Doctor says I can play slowly so can see no reason to stand by idely and be lazy.
