I figured you switched out of sympathy for the ass kicking y'all gave me last year, but I am holding you to it anyway.

Vitus, it would be an honor to have you on my side in this fight that I do love so much, for many unspoken reasons.

Sadly there will be no Pennsic for me this year.
I have thought about sending my gear down with friends and racing down on my bike for just "the 30" but at the moment it seems more daydream than reality.
Should it happen I would gladly serve Johannes and the English cause.

Something I would like to encourage people to do: Get a pic of yourself in your gear, and then compare it to an effigy from the same period. While there is simply no way for us to nail their look (they WERE professional soldiers and in better shape than most of us) look at the details of where things are worn. Breastplates cover the rib cage and start high. Shoot for the right length from your layers. We have reached the point where we had a full field last year, now to raise the bar we need to pay more attention to details.

Galleron, now is a good time to present your spear argument

My Lord, I am fighting for you because of the utmost respect I have for you, and the honour you have always shown. Also, because I gave my word I would fight with you after the last battle.
Also, my ladywife is squire to Sir Vitus, who was slated with his squires to fight with you. This brought her great joy, to be able to prove her mettle at arms in the eyes of her knight.

We will be there in fine array to do battle with the French. Even if that knife weilding Murdoch is on your side.

Good Earl Nigel,
Thank you for all of your contributions to make this wonderful event happen.

My husband, Serjant Guillaume le Breton, would be honoured if you would allow him to join your side and asked me to convey this message here.

This is assuming that he doesn't have obligations that conflict with the timing - similar to last year. He counts this tourney very high on his list of perferred activities at Pennsic.

I will stand with my brothers and cry 'For St. George' as I have these past years given my wounds heal in short order. I will post my arms and my harness so others may know me on the field. I will also endeavor to bear shade and sweet water for those who would bear witness to our deeds.

I must withdraw my name for consideration this year. With the passing of my wife in late January, I have not found the will or inspiration to attend this feat -of-arms this year. Please find another worthy to take my place.

Again, but gladly.

We're trying to recreate a particular historical combat. We know something about the weapons used, and they weren't 95%+ pollaxes.

http://willscommonplacebook.blogspot.co ... hirty.html

If almost everybody is fighting with a pollaxe, then it will not very much like the actual Combat of the Thirrty.

If we can tweak the rules to end up with a weapons mix that's more like the original combat, that would be a fine thing.

One option is to adjust the combat rules. Another is to have some sort of quota on weapons per side. That is, each team can have no more than x pollaxes, y spear, and z shields.

So what are totals looking like as it stands right now? I realize that the AA is only a single source for them but are we able to gather a generalized enough number from it?
I would personally prefer to fight with the English (assuming Johannes will have me) but I'm just as willing to shift toward French if it'll help even out the sides.

I'll have pics of my kit up within the next week to two; waiting on my Westland gambeson to pull the kit all together.
