Bow Sacks, Socks, Bags?

Post by Jantien van Vranckenvoert »

Anyone out there stumble on a pattern for a 15th linen bag for an english longbow? I am curious as to how the "carry strap" would be attached.

No the best the COSG list could come up with was a bow case which would appear to be a leather case for a gentleman's bow. So best we can tell they are anachronistic.

I'm just posting from my phone, so I can't check it from here and get you the exact link, but http://larsdatter.com/archers.htm has some sort of bowcase or bow container ... I think.

Toxophilus, late 16thc cautions against linen bowbags as they are prone to hold moisture, he recommends woollen bow bags.
