Historically: the weapon of Indian (continental) beggars, consisting of a small hand guard joining two antelope antelers so that a spike protrudes from above and below the hand.

SCA: a spear like weapon gripped in the middle with a thrusty tip on either end, and a basket hilt or buckler protecting the hand. Often refeered to or justified by calling it:
Adaga, Madu, "broken lance" Targe with boar spear...ETC

OK -Last one I can think of that I've heard that's not listed.

Meat Grinder = A very tight bridge battle where after you finally make it up to the front line, get killed, then because it's unsafe to drop and die, you have to back out through other fighters that are trying to get to the front.

fleetfoot - fighter who runs away when you come with range. In hopes of tiring you out.

Hail Mary. - slot shot thrown blind in hopes to keep your opponent off of you.

God armour - any amount of armour which wear can NOT feel blows through. generally worn by rhino.

Mobile Ammeba: Calontir Sheild Wall.

Pocket of Death: A defensive position taken up by the Calontir sheild wall usually while holding a portuculis or gate.

Fishbat: short thick rattan sword usually used while carrying a Scutum.

Super Duke: anyone who has won crown more than 3 times.

Plastic Paladin: an SCA fighter that wears Kidex full plate.

Swishy Poke: derogitory term for a fencing foil or sword.

antenna boy: derogitory term for a period fencer.

Goob: Newbie Fighter

the Force: that ability to block or throw shots in combat with out the aid of seeing those shots.

Helium stick: A super light rattan sword.

spear Duel: spear combat across 2 shield walls during a melee.

spear God: someone that is exeptionally good at the spear system.

Iron Chicken: a totally defensive stance taken by some Sword and shield fighters where it is almost impossible to throw a clean killing shot.

I'm curious why "antenna boy" would be for a PERIOD fencer. I'd think that "antenna boy" would be much more apropos for a foil or epee fencer, not a period fencer.

Well, some (most?) SCA kingdoms actually use modern foils and epees. It's very bizarre, but I'm sure they have their reasons...

Well, lets see...

Going Fishing - tactic vs. pike/spear heavy formations by mobile fighter with one weapon, no shield, just a bare gauntlet to grab (and hopefully steal) their weapons with. "Escuse me (to your shieldwall), I'm going to do a little fishing."

Wire-weenie - fencers, i hate it personally, but so many of the use that damned term....

Can Opener - halberd-type weapon you think. Can you really put that many points/edges on a polearm?

sword-on-a-stick an unpadded glaive

Nuke the duke - everyone targets that very good fighter (usually a duke and solo)

willow wand - super-light rattan sword

bear trap - tactic where one fighter seemingly leaves his oponates fav target open and unguarded, only to not only have a defense, but a counter-shot into a now exposed oppening of his opponate "He stepped into a bear trap I made."

When an experienced shield wall meets an inexperienced shield wall, it's like "clubbing baby seals".

Wire weenie - Rapier fighter

"squeak" - hitting someone hard enough to get them to make rodent-being-stepped-on noises.

"old school" - wearing heavy armor and hitting hard.

"colliding helecopters" - term for combat between two flourentine fighters.

"pandy bat/willow wand/car antennea - barely 1-1/4 sword w/one layer of duct tape.

"lesser d#$do of war" - any quasi-polearm that nobody figure out what it is. Usually seen at an Estrella war. Generally received with the phrase: "What the hell is THAT?!"

Here are a couple I haven't seen mentioned yet:

Sky-wrap/Sky-hook: a shot that is fired into Low Earth Orbit before it loops down and crashes into the back of your helm. Usually thrown by lanky guys with four foot arms.

Church Bell: any helm that rings or bongs when struck in combat.

Bascot, there are some that would find "squishies" offencive. I belive the politicaly correct term to use is now, " those suffering from common sence defficiency syndrome." Besides, I have put new armour in every place that I have been hurt in spite of armour, changed armour to meet changing rules and have gone through about 4 suites worth of armour trying to keep on top of it in 10 years time, and still mannage to have gotten about 20 stitches in the last year for my efforts. Heard about one guy that took a thrust to the hand and the point went between lames on the back of his hand and through the webbing between his thumb and index finger. They keep comming up with better arour and I keep finding new and creative ways to get hurt.

Damn! St. Sever got to all the cool Wiglaf-speak before I did! Never in my life have I met a man who uses sound effects to describe action as well as he does.

"Storch" rates up there with his infamous "woogeda-woogeda" to describe someone having to pedal slowly in a low gear.

Cripes, I could start an entire thread on the way Wiglaf speaks - he now has an entire sound effect vocabulary based on German.

That last post reminded me of a word made relatively popular in Ansteorra by our Duke Kein.

Wambley: WAM-blee adj.

a spear head, thrusting tip, butt spike or padded pole arm head that's more than a little unstable on it's stick.

IE: That spear head is too wambley. It doesn't pass inspection.

Crack Suicide Squad - Those that "go fishing" (see above)

Pain Factor - The condition that causes an area of the body to (finally) be armoured on a sport fighter.

Thud and Blunder - Fighting Style of the very nearsighted when not wearing glasses.

Zen Fighting - Someone who blocks and hits where they are aiming even though they are wearing a slit visor great helm is said to be doing this.

Squishy-poke- (Noun) another variation on rapier fighters. Named so because they go squish when hit by a heavy fighter.

Ugly- (Adj)
General def. - Something that just was not fun to watch, much less play in.
1. Anything that seemed like a good idea in the beginning, but quickly went wrong.
(Often used to discribe a battle plan, or a defensive style.)
2. A single, well placed, powerful shot by an experienced fighter, against a newbie who never even raised a defence.
3. Getting killed as soon as "Lay-on!" is called.
4. Any bridge battle with out weapons over 7.5 feet.
5. 2 Rhinos meeting in battle.
6. POD (Oh wait, it's not a fighing term used in that context.)
