Haha, people keep on commenting. :p

I'm feeling much better today than yesterday, and am going outside to work on the house for a few hours and coming in and starting a new work-out schedule this week so that I'll be a bit more prepared for the intensity during this coming practice. I want to be more aware of my defensive capabilities because I think last Friday I went out, was anxious and started trying to hit my opponents before they hit me... Without really caring about what they were doing much. I just need to focus more.

Anyway, I'll post some pictures in this thread of the updated armor later this week. Cheers!

Sorry about my earlier long winded post - I should have read the whole thread before posting. You said that the exertion wasn't the problem and that's the point I addressed. You have a point of impact and it is bothering you a lot.

What I did for that is this. Anytime I got hit somewhere and it hurt more than I thought it should, I made sure to armour that spot more heavily so the next time it wouldn't suck as much getting hit there. Don't like getting hit there? Armour it better. Stiffer cover, more padding underneath, whatever. Then as you improve your defense will improve, and you can back your armour back down a bit.

Nothing to fear if you've got the gear, and all that. :)

One thing no one has mentioned... Mono causes your spleen to enlarge. A good wack and you could end up like Houdini. I was in the Army when I got hit with Mono and Pneumonia; they sent me home for 1 months bed rest. When I got back, I was on limited exercise for 3 months. So, over a total of 4+ months to recover from that crap. I also had a friend who almost died of complications due to mono.

Once you have mono, it never really goes away and in times of stress, it can come back.

Another poster indicated that he started fighting after he turned 40. Same thing for me. I started after I turned 40 and I feel it for days afterwards. I have to take Motrin before I go to bed so I can rest otherwise the dull pain and aches will keep me awake.

It does seem that a lot of people out there see newbies as pells. When you go to your practices, try to find someone who has not been fighting for a long time and ask a more experienced fighter to watch you fight and point out where you need to improve.

Havent read any of the responses, so this might of already been mentioned.

If I didnt know I was reading about someone having a hard practice for the first time in a longtime, I would of thought I was reading someone talking about the morning after 2 a days in football.

The leg thing, yeah that bites and sounds like a deep bruise. The rest, just sounds like the body isnt in shape enough yet. And you might be in great shape, but its a different shape, if you fight hard all day.

I used to be in great shape before football season started, and 2 a days still kicked my ass, and just getting out of bed the next morning was hell.

Its up to you, just saying, your not going thru anything that the rest of us havent gone thru either, and well were all still alive and fighting. :)

You stated that you work out and have done other fighting sports.
I'm sorry to say that those might help with your general fitness level, but biking and weight lifting won't put you into perfect shape for fighting. Fighting will do that. Same way that biking and weight lifting doesn't put you into perfect shape for swimming.

If you had the vicodin from your wisdom teeth getting pulled, I say you should've tossed the vicodin right after the tooth pain left. Keeping medicines around can be detrimental, at the very best, the effectiveness will drop. Some doctor can answer that better than me. (Goes more for antibiotics, but painkillers too)

Definitely upgrade your armour. Use a better padding, and some more rigid material. This way, when you get hit, a 2x3 inch impact point gets spread into say a 3x7 inch impact, and it'll have better padding under the new larger impact. Had honestly never even heard of people using mousepads. Blue camping foam from walmart is my standby, but I've also bought the black closed cell from windrose for my helmet. Have you splinted your cuisses? Good splints, inch and a half wide, length of your thigh. Maybe an inch between them.

It would probably also help if you chose one weapon style and used just that for a while. Otherwise, the advice you're given for 2 sword will get wasted when you shift to glaive 20 minutes later. I'm not sure if it's standard in some places, but here in Nithgaard, new fighters are encouraged to start sword and shield. It prevents them from getting pulped on their first day, and requires a slightly lower investment when getting started. 1 demi, a shield with basket and a vambrace, as opposed to 2 gauntlets/demi's and 2 arm protections.

As far as having mono, it seems that every case is different. Just got over a case of it, and the only real difference I notice now is that some armour-bite was taking a long time to heal. I honestly wouldn't have known I had mono at all, but a bloodtest for work turned up an elevated number of antibodies to the disease. I guess go to a doctor on that subject
