For sale, SteelMastery Bascinet, MercTailor cuirass,Albion

Post by Cassiano di Pisa »

Need to reallocate funds so here is my Steel mastery bascinet, it has a few tiny rust spots (veerrry small) and an added aventail that is pretty ineptly done by me. A sewn in cotton liner and made to fit a 23 1/2" noggin, it can accomidate a larger if you redo the padding. It has not been fought in but has a few scratches and dings from living with other armour :) $400 shipped CONUS(which is about half of a new one with the same features..assuming you even could get it)
Next up is my MercTailor late cuirass. This is the one that has the flat top with the roping. Installed gussets with faulds and 3 piece tassets. made for 48" chest and 46" waist..basicly if you wear around a 48 suit size this is for you. $350 shipped CONUS
Last is the Albion Squire Line Knightly [SOLD]..has seen some light test cutting on jugs and picked up a very small nick near the hilt (see pics..only way I noticed it is it felt like a burr) This comes with a "Guy" Kingdom of Heaven scabbard in which the secondary belt has been removed(I can include the secondary belt if you really want but it is a pain in the neck when attached) this is $400 shipped CONUS

I take it that the helm is mild steel?

What gauge?
Tell me more about the aventail?

Dibbs on the Basinette until I get more info.

Second dibs on the bascinette pending further info. Any chance it might be heading to Pennsic?

Yeah it is mild steel..the top is 12ga and I think the visor is 14ga it might be 16 but its twin which was ordered at the same time by another fighter has never had any kind of dent in the visor...the aventail is just an 8mm butted and blackend. It did not come with the helm but i added it as a placeholder so to speak untill I picked up a rivited one (which I never did) Sorry the helm isnt going to Pennsic..I wish it was because that would mean I was as well

Just to clarify about the visor..when I ordered this two years ago I could have sworn the specs said 14ga but it lists 16ga on their site right now, of course they have changed up alot of stuff since then..we only ever tested the skull for thickness.

@ Cassiano,
I am to understand that the ENTIRE skull of the bascinette is 12g mild? I hate to be so particular but in Atlantia anything less then a 12g mild construction will result in a helm with poc marks.
The visor at 16g is fine. I would have another made for it if need be.

Fill me in - thanks.

I feel like a dunce but I cant remember where all we tested it..it is not a raised helmet but is made from two halves..I just remember that the specs said was all 12ga and were we tested it it was. The helm weighs in at 12lbs without the mail..with it it is 14lbs 6oz...I hope that helps in some way.

Any chance of having a gauge wheel around or a caliper to check for me??

I can personally verify to this helm not being fought in. We live in the same town, and are members of the same group. Is it a beautiful helm.

Alright..after spending all day trying to track down calipers I finally found some..the skull bowl ranges from 3mm near the weld down to 2.5 mm in the curves..it contiues to taper toward the edges and rim were it fluctuates( 2mm, +/- 0.3 mm) so long story short..no, only the the actual top and bowl is 12 and the lower sides and rim is 14 ga ish.

I was afraid of that :/

I will pass.... Thank you Cassiano. It seems that a lot of armorers do just that, make the bowl from a thicker gauge then the sides.
I appreciate all the trouble you went through. I hope it sells quickly for you.
