Perhaps this question has been asked a 100 times but I did not read them.
My search engine hiccups.
Brass, steel, copper or bronze?
Old pics would be nice on how they are shaped, and what the claws look like.
I finally tried on my Black Swan winingas with my turn shoes.
I was going to use the ace bandage stainless clippy things, but they don't look right.
Just tucking them in won't do for running.
OK around the house... but for field work they will come undone.
I would like to make some winingas out of my sheet bronze, copper or brass.
Should I copy the modern ace bandage clip, with some runes?
I thought I would get a pair with my Viking garb from Black Swan, but I must of ordered the cheaper kit.
Oh it is a nice kit and all.
I could not make anything like that, and my seamstress wife won't.
The tunic, hat and shirt fits very well.
I give Black Swan 5 out of 5 on the Frieman's scale.
However thoes baggy trousers are hard to get used to.

Winingas hooks were usually made of iron or latten. Latten refers to that wonderful copper alloy that is related to both brass (an alloy of copper and zinc) and bronze (an alloy of copper and tin) but is not as...refined, I guess you could say. Generally brass is a closer match and, since modern refineries make there alloys with very specific formulas, about as close as you can come to medieval latten without making your own.
There are some wonderful winingas hooks that come up with google search; these are accurate depictions, actually work pretty well, and are fairly easy to make so I do recommend recreating those patterns. The modern bandage hooks look like shit and really don't work that well.
