Review: Windrose EVA Foam
As foam goes, this stuff rocks. I bought a couple of sheets hoping it would pad my noggin better than blue foam and I'm not disappointed. It shipped the day I ordered it and arrived the next day. I installed it and gave it a test run last night at Sir Dougal's and it's infinitely better than blue camp foam. If your helm fits very close to your head like mine does, you can't go wrong with this foam. The sheets are also big enough that I have a bunch left and could re-pad it again later or do someone else's.

Is the stuff true to size? I've bought 1/2" foam and it was 3/8".
What are the impact differences foam Generic Blue Foam to this stuff?

Isabella, glad you were happy with it!
Ivan,
It's cut to our dimensions, and it is true to size. When you order 1/2", that's what you get. It is softer to the touch than blue foam, in my experience, but has different compression so it cushions more without bottoming out. I try to make sure to leave an air gap between pieces, which allows the foam to expand sideways as it compresses down, and makes it less rigid.

With generic blue foam even moderate hits were uncomfortable to take. This stuff does a much better job of absorbing energy it seems like. I had Sir Dougal hit me a couple of times and I didn't really notice a difference between a normal good hit and a much harder one. I'll be giving it a real test drive Sunday at fighter practice but so far I'm pretty happy with it.
I didn't leave any gaps though so I will probably take it out and trim is a little because I didn't know that made a difference. I put 3/4" in the front and 1/2" in the back.

I need to do an article on padding a helmet for the web site, but I never seem to get to it
If you just leave a 1/4 inch or so, it'll soften the impacts a little more, and let a little air move around.

I got a sheet of the black foam when i bought my helm at lilies over two years ago.
This stuff dosent die. its perfect. I wont pad my helm with anything else.
Its even better for gauntlets. The sticky sided stuff makes padding them a breeze.
