An Apology
An Apology
Greetings Fellow Archivists
As often as I can, I strive to be fair-minded and deal in principles of modern chivalry, guided by the lessons of the past, and not in egos. In certain recent posts, in threads that I hope will be allowed to pass away, while defending certain positions I have in part strayed from those lofty goals by making some unpleasant remarks of a personal nature. For those few, and for those few only, you have my most sincere apologies.
I will strive to do better.
Regards
Avery

Your Grace,
In my time in the Corps, we had a saying; "You can have a hundred thousand ATTABOY'S and, one AWSHIT takes them all away."
But this is a different culture. A man of character who consistently demonstrates the angels of his better nature may stumble and demonstrate his feet of clay. Yet, he recognizes his shortcomings and publicly makes amends. Amongst people of good will, his stature is not tarnished in any way.
I am no one of consequence here on the AA. I am a consistent, nay almost constant lurker. I read posts from everybody. You good sir are one of the people I most admire and would like to meet from these forums.

You Sir are precious metal. Just as the silversmith heats the silver to remove impurities so to the precious mettle of character is heated through diverse trials and the unwanted dross that rises to the surface is skimmed and skimmed again. With each skim we become further refined so the reflection of the maker can be seen more clearly. We then become nourishment for others.
You Sir have nourished me, inspired me and I have been encouraged by your words.
Special regards

Good Gentles
One of the things I love best about the SCA is how it brings (some) civilians and (some) service men and women together. It is good to say thank you, but I fear that perhaps there is some risk of the magnitude of what has been given being trivialized. So to be able to roll out the welcome wagon, share a party, and even take the field together fraternally where we can deliberately ignore our differences, and be one whole people, is a rare and magnificent thing.
I do look forward to meeting as many of you as possible. Nissan is right, I am a crazy sca 'noble'. My notions are egalitarian in nature however, and I regard hypocrisy as a pernicious weed of the spirit that all men must be wary of, everyday.
And thank you.
Regards

The monkey must come out!
My garage is my primary domain now, the house willingly being given over to the needs of my little gentlemen (one 5, one 9). My 9 yr old, however, has been bugging me to go out to the garage to explore all my old piles of sca stuff.
He found an old sca combat crossbow from the 90s that uses shafted tennis ball ammo, and he talked me into shooting it. We shot a trash can until my fingers ached from cocking it and the nut started acting strangely. We had a great time, and I thought of your brave efforts as I suggested that there might be ways we could do more of it, when he was older.
He also wants his own rattan winged spear.
I'm proud to offer my modest support to your efforts to create new fun that may span old rifts.
Regards
Avery

Your Grace Sir Avery,
If I may be allowed to offer an opinion, I would say that your Grace might wish to name those to which your Grace wishes to extend an apology.
If an injury or slight to the reputation of another has occured in such a public place and an apology or retraction is issued, those wishing to make amends should issue such a retraction as to name those who's good name and reputation has suffered... as it is the name and reputation that has been damaged. Thereby, the reputation and good name may be repaired by such an noble and graceful apology and such things may be forgiven and forgotten by those injured.
I thank your Grace for his consideration of my words.
Humbly,
Varyag of the West

Your words move me.
I wronged the archive(everyone) by bringing things here that did not belong. It was not done with malice, but it did end badly.
I wronged Merlin and Uther, for letting the past color the present. And I rebuked Sir Sigifrith undeservedly.
Still, matters of principle chivalric remain between Titus, Uther, Jade, and myself that remain unresolved. I regret where I have unwisely allowed frustration to guide my words in some of my exchanges with them here (see above), without yielding on principle.

Avery

Members of the AA, and Duke Avery,
I'll join in and offer a second apology to those of you given discomfort by the exchange of messages between Duke Avery and myself - the first such was in the thread where they occurred.
Avery, I can't tell you how happy I am to see you apologize to Uther and Titus for letting matters of the past color the present. Further, I am grateful for the rest of what you apologized for, while acknowledging that we still have differences. I am delighted to find that I am wrong about you, and I retract my concern that you are an internet troll with a white belt.
I apologize for insulting you, and hope for the best going forward.
As for the matters principle and chivalric, I'll hope to address those with you, sooner than later. I believe two Knights can have such disputes and express them in a noble fashion, even without ever swaying the others opinion.
Also, like you, I feel that I have stood on principle with respect to certain matters, about which we may have to agree to disagree. Hopefully, you can understand that in defense of those I hold in high regard, I felt that I needed to respond powerfully to unjust commentary. None the less, I hope we can both step away from the keyboards and resolve our concerns as honorable men and as Knights.
I'll look forward to that.
Jade

THESE are the words of adults and what I hold most dear about the ideals of the SCA. That two men can disagree vehemently yet upon reflection give heartfelt apologies for offenses imagined or real is, to me, the epitome of honor.
