The one on the left is 1 3/4" rattan planed to 1 1/4" and then beveled on the sides so that it retains a 3/4" wide strip of skin on the striking surface for most of its length. The strait fuller is 3/4" wide and runs from the base of the blade to a point 2" from the tip. The tip narrows to a 1 1/4" round circle. There is no linear taper, except at the tip and the entire piece of wood weighs in at a stout 1 lb 8.6 oz. The handle is both long and thick with an oval cross section and should probably be cut down for most hardware.

I call it a type 10. It is inspired by a Viking/early Norman blade.

The one on the right is 2" rattan with an even linear taper down to 1 1/4" at the tip. The edge is beveled on the sides so that it retains a 3/4" wide striking surface but without the skin, due to the taper. The triangular fuller is 3/4" wide at the base and ends at a point approx 2/3 of the way up the blade. The blade is six sided at the tip. The entire piece of wood weighs in at 1 lb 3.5 oz. The handle is both long and thick with an oval cross section and should probably be cut down for most hardware.

I call it a type 12 although it has characteristics of both an Oakshott Type XII and type XVI.

Not really. My photography stinks. I had to turn off the overhead light and the flash and put a lamp to the side to get the fullers to show up on film. In those conditions, the image is fuzzy at larger sizes. Here are a couple pics I shot of the tip of the type 10 with the flash on and off. Rattan reflects light well enough that they don't look like the same sword.

$50 for the standard size type 15A (wood only: without the hardware in the top picture)
$75 for the type 10
$90 for the type 12

I forgot to ask Baron Eirik if he is charging $20 or $25 for the economy waster.

At this point he only has a few of any style waster. Email him if you want dibs.

By the way, in the latter picture, it looks like the tip of the type 10's are rounded. In reality, for those people that like thrusting tips, there is a flat 1 1/4" diameter disk on the end of each one.

Just a note on shaping rattan weapons.
All striking surfaces need to be "rounded".
Make sure that the weapon can not be put into an opening more than 1/2" and will pass the gauge for a width of 1.25" in any direction.

Be careful tapering the bevel of the blade or the weapon will go in more than 1/2"

I have bounced a few handmade ones in the past, none that came from Eirik though.

There are usually a few corners that need a pass or two with some sandpaper when Thomas is done with them. But he is very careful on the measurements. But a friendly reminder is welcome.

Someone asked about lengths on the Economy Wasters and I can't find the post or PM it was in.

I have one at 41 inches overall length, 4 at 36" and one at 34". All over them have approximately 9 inches of handle.

The biggest SCA basket hilt I have seen (a plastic Baldar hilt) is 9 1/2" between the far ends of the tabs. Under the theory that it easier to cut than add rattan, most of the handles on my economy, type 10 and type 12 wasters are 9 1/2" long (the type 12 in the center of the picture below is an exception at 8"). Most of my type 15A's have a 12" tang.

On the economy wasters, that 9 1/2" is measured from the blade side of the black tape.
