Recently completed Armet with Wrapper and lining.

Post by MattB »

I recently completed and armet C.1460-1470, using a few examples held in the met as per clients requirements. Predominantly produced in 2mm mild steel with a cs70 work hardened wrapper, featuring hand made fittings and a hand sewn quilted lining (my first attempt at sewing!).
Some progress shots can be found in this wip thread http://forums.armourarchive.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=117304&highlight=

I had this image in my head while producing this piece, on seeing my work others have drawn a comparison so i think i can sit back happy :)

That is truly a magnificent work of art. Pieces like this make me wonder why more people aren't in love with the latter 15th century.

lovely, precise, beautiful work as ever Matt.

I can't go beyond that in any constructive way as its not a period Ihave studied much, but a joy to look at as ever.

All the best

First off-absolutely gorgeous work! :D

Second-My only constructive criticism: the visor hinge pin seems to be a little on the small side. I'd be concerned about using it in a joust, but for all ground work I'm sure it'd be fine.

Thirdly-absolutely gorgeous work! :D

Having seen MattB's armour in person I strongly believe that if he is not already there then he is rapidly approaching being in the top league of armourers in the world.
I just hope that when I need a new harness his prices haven't gone up too much.

Holy hellfire. Thank you, mother history, for making me attracted to the ancient world. I could never afford such work! Absolutely outstanding, and based on precisely one of my favorite harnesses ever painted.

Yes site has been down for a while :( a friend who helped set it up isn't much help and i can't access my account even though i still own the domain name because it's registered in my brothers address and he needs to contact them... and hasn't. So somehow need to regain my address and get my site up independently. Some of my works are on display on FB http://www.facebook.com/pages/Matt-Black-Armour/101134646621033

Hi MattB, That is one crispy clean piece of armor sir. The creases and rolls on the faceplate look magical. I like the liner and blue leather strap too, Did I mention the finish looks perfect? Thanks for sharing and keep up the incredible work.

Happy Hollidays
