Fighting videos please
Hi all,
Well, it must be time for the regularly scheduled request for fighting videos. Some acquaintances are asking me for links to movies they can download to get some kind of idea what I do for fun.
I have most of the movies from legio draconis and few others.
There was a video of An-Tir West war posted some time ago but I've changed laptops since and don't have the link.
Any and all help would be appreciated.

This was a crown tournament I taped half a year ago. I still need to put the rest to DVD but this is what I did as a teaser.

Sarnac,
You just made my day. There is more than just Gann in this video. I'm in there too!
One of the four practices I've attended in Ealdormere and you have it on tape (only like 3 seconds total...but whos counting
).
I'm the guy with the green shield that has a badger on it. I'm fighting Gann both times I'm on the video and, as usual in my old style, I'm backing up most of time.
Very, Very cool!

great tunes for a fighting montage! and well done, smooth clips good transfer. not a study piece but that wasnt its point. if you have any more shoot them my way (i can handle a pretty fat transfer rate, or ftp them somewhere so i can download them.
i do have a question for you. is the throw a shot or two then go into a thrusty frenzy common for you guys? i ask only because ive not run into it from you guys at pennsic and i always find it a very disappointing way of fighting as it usually is a clear sign of a lack of skill.
please dont misunderstand what im saying. what i see often are guys (from all kingdoms) that go into a fight, throw one or two sloppy blows, then wing their arms over their heads and hide behind their shields while doing the "folly thrust" in the hope that they can touch the other fighters grille. i specifically do not allow my students to use thrusting tips so that i can prevent that very ineffective way of fighting. i think they are better fighters for it. i hate when its attempted on me (i do see fighting as a true test of courage and prowess) as its a cheap and easy way to kill someone when you lack the skill to do it with the edge of your weapon. i usually blast their arm to remind them to keep it covered, but im evil anyway! >8^)
there are techniques that ive used and that ive seen in which a single handed thrust is an effective technique but that is the exception and certainly not the rule. sarnac, what are your thoughts?
fun video to watch though, especially with the subs turned up on my new gaming box.
regards
logan

Logan...
I would say that this is not a good example of the style of fighting in our kingdom.
We tend to be very mobile fighters...that is very evident in this...but even though there is alot of it in the video...we dont rely on thrusting very often.
Duke Roak....in the black lorica...does do more thrusting than most in our Kingdom though...
Frankly......I fight alot differently than anyone else in my Kingdom because I train with Earl Sir Brannos and Duke Ragnvldr and the guys in Detroit...so my style tends to be more like that with some Eastern influence from Sir Tanaka who was my first teacher.... so I am a bad judge.
I prefer "death by efficency" myself.
Excess movement is wasted energy.
Like I said...I would love to come train with you sometime...Val says you are an amazing fighter and a great teacher.

Sarnac,
What is the name of that Ministry tune? I'm not familiar with the group but I like the sound on the movie clip.

I'll point out that being able to thrust effectively without getting your arm blasted by people like you takes very effective technique.
In my area, I'm probalby one of the heaviest thrusters around, yet last night at fighter practice I still killed around 90% of my fights with the edge. I see the thrust as just another shot to be thrown in a combo, no more or less effective in its own way than a flat snap or leg shot.
I'm not certain I understand the "the thrust is easier" or the "the thrust is cowardly" mentality. It takes timing, accuracy, and deception to carry it of efficiently and safely. How is that different than any other shot.
I know a lot of people who aren't used to it get gacked by it a lot, but from what my experience has shown me, it takes exactly one practice for someone to remember how to counter and avoid it.

jean paul,
you said it yourself: "It takes timing, accuracy, and deception to carry it of efficiently and safely".
any idiot can touch your grille with a thrusting tip. that is what i refer to as the "folly thrust". this closing with someone and holding your arm over your head and stabbing at the other guys face. its a cheap, no skill, attempt at an easy win.
however, not all can throw a blow with decent force (decent even by our low sca standards) and place that shot against an opponent. that is the difference.
to throw a deceptive thrust that lands with telling force to the body is another thing. that takes skill on most occasions (discounting the phallic thrust stupidity and other so called "trick" shots). dont get me wrong, as an ex boxer i can throw some pretty fast thrusts and hit at some pretty weird angles. those are not the thrusts i was referring to. its the cheap ones.
hope that clears up my point as i dont think you are talking about your thrusting the same way i was about the "folly thrust".

you said it yourself: "It takes timing, accuracy, and deception to carry it of efficiently and safely".
any idiot can touch your grille with a thrusting tip. that is what i refer to as the "folly thrust". this closing with someone and holding your arm over your head and stabbing at the other guys face. its a cheap, no skill, attempt at an easy win.

glad to hear that its not the norm.
were happy that valharic is here with us. even though he lives but a few short miles (like 3) from my house we dont get to see him often at wed night practice. that whole job thing and all.
im honored by his accounts of my fighting and my teaching although i think hes a bit too praising. ive just got some different ideas on this whole sport. and, it changes every next generation. so i think he gives me too much credit.
i would love to do some training with you anytime. fee free to plan a weekend here in charlotte or lets get together at pennsic for some.
regards
