Hey guys-

I am looking for the forum that was mainly focused on ancient Roman and Greece. There were a lot of SCA folks on that forum too, but I cannot find the link or remember the full name.

I was not publishing, just making a smart-ass reply to a posting.

Of course I lifted it from the most obvious, most immediate source I could find... where someone would find immediately where I stole that from...

Besides, I am long past writing to impress. I am too old and too ugly to impress anyone... Also, I did not realize this was an academic forum..

So for Gerhard's sake, here is my "fe de errata".

Glaukos I got it as the joke you intended, just want to throw that out. I had a little fun trying to read it. I picked out a few words: monument, religion, economic. That's about as far as I got though. :shock:

Thank you. You were looking for a Roman Forum and I thought I would point one out.

I was mildly amused about the fact that I could more or less read the stuff, though it has been more than 25 years since I have done any serious Latin translation.

For a fun read I think you will enjoy, look up the book Lest Darkness Fall by L. Sprague de Camp...
One of my all time favorites...

Thank you for providing the citations, Glaukos... I also did not mean to insinuate that you were trying to be impressive in your writing - I wanted to translate some of your text and slapped it into Google, discovering the source. I was perplexed, so wrote up my previous posts. I lacked tact and discreetness in doing so. My apologies.

Glaukos - you could read most of that? I am so envious. I finally just learned 'Vade in pace' and thought I was really moving on up! My pronunciation is really off I'm sure though. I wish Rosetta stone had it!

Gerhard, you are a good guy. Don't worry, it was all about fun, not about serious academic writing. I believe the Fora are the most written about archaeological areas EVER, so I was poking fun at myself as well as joking with Livia

Livia, I can try to help you with basic Latin but I am afraid there are better options out there....

The trick is that we don't know what the Romans really sounded like, and in a very long history I am sure that pronunciation and diction changed quite a bit from the time of Cesar to the time of Marcus Aurelius. Still, we can try...

Maybe I should get a Roman soft kit to attend parties. I can surely speak better Latin than Greek, but I guess I can be a Greek guest at Roman parties as well.... (BTW if you have not seen a Roman party at Pennsic, you have not seen a party....)
