AA Review: Sir Haroun, hidden legs

Post by Dietrich von Stroheim »

Two weeks ago I received my leg armor from Sir Haroun--I've gone most of my SCA career with no leg armor (just hidden knees) and been just fine, and I never could find anything that I liked...everything was too heavy or bulky or just cramped my style.

Well, Sir Haroun made me some hidden leg to my measurements, and at the risk of sounding like I'm reviewing a condom instead of armor, it fits like a glove, is protective as hell, and feels like nothing's there

Here's a pic of me in action in my new invisa-armor:
Image

Can hardly tell it's there!

And, the weekend after this photo was shot, I went over to HRH Michael of Bedford's house for fighter practice...and HOO BOY was I glad I was wearing protective leg armor!! :D

Five stars, three cheers and two thumbs up for Sir Haroun!!

Those look like they're very comfortable.

Is there a website these can be viewed on? More pics, or prices? :)

Indeed, look very nice, low profile and good to hear the weight is comfortable as well.

I fought my first event in a pair of legs from Sir Haroun this last week-end.

I love them. Plain and simple. They hide really nicely, and are very comfortable to wear. I only had to play a bit with the burned rope-ends, some of 'em were a bit pointy and would annoy me, but that's more of a personal issue.

Light, low profile, protective.

5 stars, easy.

Interesting.

Any links or pics so i can actully SEE them? I could really use some new hidden leg armour.

Hey guys,
I just now checked in and saw the questions. The legs Sir Haroun made for me actually look a lot better than the ones in the thread referenced--they are all black.

The wait to obtain these is a long one (I think I got on the queue back in August of last year), but it is well worth the wait.

I know what I will be recommending to my new guys, going forward :D

I also think that Sir Haroun needs to charge more for these...I would have happily paid far more than he is asking for leg armor that I actually like!!

I've got some of these coming in June. Yea!

A question about padding:

Did you pad them, or is padding unnecessary? What kind of knee pad did you wear?

Thanks

Morning Prawn,
Previously I just wore motocross-style knees (roach rally, to be exact). I just put the Haroun leg armor on right over, and it works like a charm.

If you want thigh padding, then athletic shorts are the way to go, sir. Either padded bike shorts, hexpads, etc. I don't think it is necessary, but it's all personal preference when it comes to thigh protection.

One thing you may need to keep in mind is that these legs are very protective and you may need to adjust your calibration.

I am used to a good leg blow landing on unarmored thigh having a healthy sting to it. With Haroun's armor, it's more of, 'I don't feel any pain at all but my leg moved, it was probably good'

And this is in Atlantia, so for those in lighter-hitting kingdoms, you may not even get that much.

They seem to hit hard enough here in the East to suit me! I have some motocross shinguard/knees I have been wearing that should do fine.
Thanks!

That's 'cause of the nerve damage from all that time wearing no cuisses.

But I admit they're good gear. I've got a pair and they work just fine.

Thanks for the review Dietrich. Those blue legs pictured in the linked post were mine. (Sadly no longer in my possession, long story).

As you said his legs are all black now.

When I was fighting at the tender age of 16 those legs were a life saver.

Sir Haroun wears some volleyball knee pads (ASICS brand?) and I tried the same and fared well.

I agree that Haroun does not charge near enough for his work, especially his Leather covered bazubands.

On a side note, I am going to try to fly up to visit him in early June and help him crank out some orders for a week or so, and try to get his backlog down.

Cheers.

And not to de-rail, but I'd like to second Lord Dietrich's endorsement of the Roach Rally pads. I wear a pair under my Ice Falcon legs as kneepads/hidden shin protection and it's as comfortable as can be. Comfortable enough that I sometimes forget I'm wearing them until halfway through feast...

(On another note, got both the legs and Roach pads from Dietrich. Funny how that works.)

I'll try to think about taking a picture of them when I come back from my event tomorrow.

Folcric, you are very welcome. Your uncle makes one hell of a product and I like to give praise where praise is due so others can benefit--it can be a VERY costly experience for new folks to learn who is good to do business with!!

I am happy that you are happy with 'em! Especially with you being Afshin's man, you NEED good solid leg protection!

Missed you and Hrothgar at Assessment today. You boys coming to Gulf Wars??
