Duke Sir Throfin and Bucket of the West both will often carry a 9' pike, a Dane Axe, and some back up dagger or small axe and use what is most effective for the situation, and go back ane recover discarded weapos after the fight/scenario.

I sometimes stash a back up weapon on the field- usually up against a tree or a castle wall so I don't have to bend down to grab it. If I'm being chased I don't want to get stabbed in the taint. But I don't generally carry back up weapons. Every one of my opponents has a weapon that I'm quite happy to steal and kill them with. It's not always easy, but it's way more fun.
