Mass weapon question

You get used to where you were first taught and all else is strange. When I lived in Atlantia padded polearms and authorizations by weapon style were the norm. Here in the Middle, padded polearms over 6 ft long are prohibited and authorizations by weapon style are still the norm, so the former seemed strange and the latter normal.

I'm not trying to start an argument with you Gavin. Honestly I do not know where you get that understanding from. Is there a section of the rules that suggest that two handed maces are not allowed or some obscure portion of the construction rules that simply makes building a two handed mace a no-no?

From long term familiarity with the rules. There used to be a category specifically for "hafted weapons" which were distinguished from polearms by being shorter but still intended for use in two hands. Mauls - two handed maces, and Dane axes were typical examples of the category.

At some point the category was not only eliminated, but when it was eliminated the short mauls were banned.

It's entirely possible that the ban has been intentionally lifted and I missed it. It's also possible that it just got dropped along the way (like shovel grips on spears) without people noticing.

Whatever else, if I were inspecting a two handed "mace" I would use the polearm regs as the guidelines for that inspection. I don't think the specs for constructing a one handed solid head mace would apply.
