What can you give up?

Post by Guest »

The question arrises that if I could only save up some cash, I could get a better looking (fill in the blank).

Look into your daily spending habits... what thing could you give up, so that over time you could afford that one thing...

Think of it as a double question...

1. What one thing would you like to improve in your kit? Why?

2. What could you give up to go about saving the money to buy it?

If I could find a way to add another 15 to 30 minutes to my morning without giving up sleep, i'd pack a lunch and save the ridiclous amount of money I waste on the absoutly crap that I shovel down my gullet. If we assume that I could save $3 a day that way at the end of a working month I would have $60 to put towards my new helm from Master Eldred.

Sigh.

Bdeb- Would it be possible for you to pack your lunch the evening before? When I was in school I used to pack my lunch after dinner sometimes.

Just a thought

I'll sell somebody my little bro for use as a shop monkey in return for a nice helm Image But no seriously I would give up most of my expensive tastes, (food, movies, etc..) to save up for a WMA Norman Spangenhelm thingamabob.

I could (and should) give up soda and zebra cakes in order to save money for some new shop tools. Like dishing bowls and planishing hammers. Then I could really get to work on trying to make my first helm. (Yes all. I'm insane enough to do all of this using only a drill press to drill holes and a band saw to cut pieces. In fact, I'd have to have someone else do that. I hate using electronic tools.)

Hmmm what to give up....

Hockey but only after the cup finals and before first face off.

The History channel...wait no i'd give up my left pinky toe first.

The 30 minute drive to the office...then i could work form my home-office

Lunch at all, but i'd replace it by a 60-minute stretch-warmup-weights-aerobic-cooldown workout

my attitude, it puts people off and makes people think i'm an ass

Eating too much crap, i'm 20# overweight and am in need of some stern Louis Gosset, jr. drill sargeant motivation!!! "Stop eye-ballin' me, boy!!"

ok that's enought whining 30 minutes on the bike and it's off to bed. grrrr

*GO DEVILS!!!*

and what i'd do with this extra $$ i'd have a tailor made harness. a la corrazina bp sshourglass gauntlets, SS full arms, sabatons, legs, new ss basinet, spaulders, all trimmed in brass on yes a new chain skirt trimmedin brass...oh somewhere ner $4K .. maybe next year, and the time to recruit new fellas to the SCA and tme to devote to a studio to teach. (i mean that what it's all about. learn, perfect, teach)

But seriously folks, I already gave up drinking for my health. I would give up eating Chinese food 2-3 times a week. Well maybe cut back to once a week. Still want the same thing - boots for my kit. Then, and only then would my kit be complete. Yeah it needs some tweaking here and there, but the components would all be in place.

Pick up a decent sized roast / 2 onions / 1 decent malty ale (say harpoon ale) 1 tablespoon of sugar / one teaspoon of pepper / salt to taste.
Brown the beef, then pot roast (why God made crock pots) it with the sliced onions, ale, sugar, pepper, and salt to taste until tender.
slice it into sandwich sized slices stack them with waxed paper between each slice, and freeze the stack.
Serve on decent roll.
Assembly time for a nice RB sandwich is about two minutes, assembly time for total luch is aobut five min. Lunch in NYC runs about six to eight dollars - big time cost savings
Take it out
