dedicated female fighters?

Post by RedWench »

Hi all I have been fighting for almost two years and its been a battle trying to prove im just as good and if not better in some cases as my male counterparts. I would like to know how many other female combatants there are in here.
I would love to hear from you.

Just so you know in case you dont, there is a ladies fighting household. called Iron Rose. It is female fighters from all over the sca. You can get their web site by typing in iron rose in pretty much any search engine.
Hope this helps

There are a number of us here, from just beginning to hoary veterans. As he said, you may enjoy Ironrose. I know there are some there from Australia, not sure about New Zealand.

Just for info, Ironrose is not restricted to SCA. It is mainly SCA, sure, but there are other fighting ladies in there too, including a good proportion of steelies.

Cheers

I do SCA and live steel. I don't know if I'd say I'm dedicated at this point. I'm no longer fighting 3 times a week and 3 tournies a month, but I've been doing SCA for 25 yrs or so, fight in practices, wars or tournments several times a month, and fight live steel occasionally (need major armor overhaul).

I've found there are fewer women fighting in steel. The weight of the extra armor bothers the arthritis in my hips - thus the need for an overhaul to lighten my rig up a bit. If I can get it down to 50 lbs or so, I'll probably be fine :-)

Not sure if I would describe myself as a fighter yet, but I'm sure going to be! Making tiny baby steps in that direction - enough of those tiny steps and I will get there eventually.

I have one female friend who is active in a live steel group (17th c. reenactment), but she is not on this board (to my knowledge). If you want, and she is willing, I'd be happy to give you her e-
mail.

Edited to add that I will be doing SCA heavy combat - wasn't clear from the above.

Another SCA fighter here, been fighting about three years... still not very good at it yet but it's fun trying to bite the ankles of the local big dawgs Image

Good luck and just keep hangin' in there!

I'm SCA heavy weapons fighter of nearly 10 years now.... and would love to learn live steel, but more in an eastern martial arts form.

HI all
It was fantastic to hear Im not the only one.
smiles.
Some one asked me where I was, Im in Auckland, New Zealand.
And yes I use live weapons.
I love the quater staff, spear, pike, Single sword and dagger. I use kite sheild, round and buckler.
Im making chain maile shirt but have made my own breast plate, greaves and helm.
I'm not that great at case dagger or axe but working on it.
We dont train enough here in Auckland but I live on the back of a park so I do my best to work out as many days in a week as I can.
I have to say again Its been great hearing that there are a few off us here.
