FS - Aventail

Post by Nikos »

Up for sale is an aventail from Atlanta Armory. Bought this, and when it arrived realized that is would not be suitable for heavy combat IMO. Just asking what I paid for it, $100 plus shipping. It has never been used, or even mounted. It's basically butchers mail.

just as a heads up, if that's the welded ring one, I have had no problems fighting with mine,

It is indeed the welded one. It's more of an aesthetic issue for me. It looks "dainty" compared to a standard aventail

Check out the historical helms posted here: http://www.myarmoury.com/feature_spot_bascinet.html

I was shocked looking at these by the fineness of the mail. There's a better picture on p 70 of Arms and Armour of the Medieval Knight if you have it. I understand if the aesthetic doesn't appeal, but it is both functional and historical for an aventail, except of course for being machine-welded stainless.

As an aside, i have pretty much the same aventail on my bascinet, and I absolutely love it. If anyone is looking for one, these are great, you should buy it.
