Looking for legal kettle hat/Eisenhut helm for SCA

Post by Swiss_pike »

I am looking for information on getting a Eisenhut/kettle hat that would work for the SCA. I am new to the SCA rules and regulations and was wonder if a bevor combination would be exceptable since the helmet covers much like a Sallet only with a wider brim. I am also new to armour archive.

Thanks

when i decided to go with a kettle helm i knew for my years in the sca i had 3 options.
1st i could go with somethink like white mountain armory who in my opinion sets the standard for kettles.
they make very nice hats but you still have the bargrill to conform to sca conventions.
second was something like the rhodes bevor with the kettle.
which completely covers the face. i almost went this route because i still think it would be pretty cool to have the bevor attached
with spring pins that allow it to articulate down when not in use.
or i could go with a combination of the 2.
and while i know the bevor does not quite fit my time period it was the best option for me.
and since i cant stand regular bar grill i opted to do something a little more decorative.
keep in mind this was not a cheap helm.
and not something i would recommend a knewbie spend a ton of money on.
but im sure you could do a simpler design on the helm and bevor without th ebrass or bluing and save quite a bit.
take a look at white mountain armory though, like i sai d they make a nice kettle.
mine was made by shamrock armory.
im sure jackie could work something out for you as well.
there is also knotwolf who makes some of the nicer kettles on the market but i have never worked with him and do not know what his
turnaround time is.
i do however know about reputations and all three mentioned here are top knotch. you should feel comfortable working with any of them.

If you find an armourer who makes SCA versions let me know. I love that style of helmet.

That is infact a most excelent helmet! Though I want one like it i was thinking more in line with an attached visor. Almost like a Sallet kettle combination. I am looking to do a Swiss impression no one ever thinks of the Swiss and how awesome they used to be!

Is this worth it or is it no good for SCA combat?

Thanks for the info I may look into getting one custome done.

I beg to differ! After your recent political/social victory in your right to keep and bear arms, I would say we acknowledge your past feats and continue to admire you today!

i see what you are getting at.
i dont see any reason it couldn't be done.
the only real trick is getting the back of the neck covered.
like you said the bevor could work just fine to cover the lower portion of the face you would just need to make sure you had one that covers the back as well.
and they would have to affix to the helm itself so there was no way of them opening up a gap.
personally i woul dthink the visibility would be horrendous but i would like to see it on the field.
i dont know anyone who makes anything like that in regular production but i know you could hit up several of the custom builders and have it done.
good luck i would love to see it if this ever pans out for you.

Thanks, don't forget about the minarett banning ha ha! I think I am just going to have to have one built for me. Its hard to get what you want off some crap ass site. I would like a helmet that can take a goot hit and won't dent my head. But I also want it to be historical so thats going to be hard to find.

I will look into the sites you sent me.

Thanks

I will do that. I found this guy i wonder if I could have him do a little work to make it okay for the SCA. What do you think? It is what I am looking for I would just have to get him to weld on a wire bevor and it should be good to go yeah?
