Shameless plug, Ice Castle-Black Diamond-Atlantia

Post by Vladimir »

Ice Castle 20th Anniversary and Investiture
January 31st, 2004
Barony of Black Diamond

Once again the frigid winds sweep through Black Diamond freezing 20 years of history in a single event. Black Diamond invites all to attend Their Excellencies Baron Edwin and Baroness Giovanna one last time as they bid farewell to our wonderful Barony and to help them remember and relive the 20 years of history and traditions that have gone before.

As with all partings there can also be a new beginning. Black Diamond will see the investiture of a new Baron and Baroness to start another 20 and more glorious years. Pray attend and help them start new traditions and memories to pass on to all future generations of Black Diamonders.

On top of the standard 3 man chivalry tourney for Armored combat there will be an additional short tournament for fun. As a treat for the celebration of the birthday we invite all alumni, former Black Diamonder's, honorary Black Diamonder's, friends of the Barony, and everyone else to watch and participate in a fun-for-all Alums tourney.

There will also be a rapier tourney of a fun nature that will be disclosed at a later date to add to the mystery, fun, and anticipation.

There will be several A&S contests and a showcase throughout the day. The main theme will be "Hiding the Modern in Favor of a Medieval Look." There will also be another contest to bring your best representation of Baronial regalia/nostalgia.

There will also be a bardic competition during the feast that evening. Bring a poem, short story, oral tradition, or song and entertain their Majesties, Highnesses, and new Excellencies.

I won't be able to make this one, but I know of a couple of our fighters who will be there. Malcolm and Kelley are planning on going.

I've heard that this Ice Castle is "The" one to attend. I've heard it's supposed to be a great event. I know I had fun at the ones that I did attend.

I think it would be well worth attending for those fighters/areas that are close to Blacksburg/VA.

Yes.. Syr Malcolm. He started doing SCA (many years ago, heh) in Blacksburg.. so he's one of those "old black diamonders".

His device is purple/black with a white chevron dividing the two, with 3 of his bunnies.. 2 on the top and one at the bottom. Ok, I suck at herald speak..

His "bunny" is a white rabbit playing the bagpipe and wielding a sword. I mention that since it's pretty distinctive if you have seen it before, you usually remember it.

He was a room-mate of Angus and Baron Miles if that helps

Since I'm tagging along with Malcolm, and have heard about the year there was three feet of snow and the interstate was closed, I just wanted to know if I should pack clothes suitable for fighting outside.

Want to go so horribly bad. Trying to go even more so Car, weather, and school permitting, I should be there!

Malcolm does know about the new kiddie, we're going to be spending Friday night with Angus.

So do I need to pack the thermals and big clunky insulated boots? Course it has to be warmer down there than up here in the arctic.

Oh... how does the no visible plastic thing apply to non-Atlantians? I have a tiny bit visible but it's black so not as bad as it could be. (sorry for using the 'P' word)

Not sure how the rule applies to Non Atlantians. I do remember Duke Logan (who wrote the law) saying that individual cases could be granted permission by the crown.

Can anyone "in the know" answer her question?

oops,

fighting is sometimes inside and sometimes outside. It depends on the weather during the tourney. The school the event is being held at is no longer in use (at least as a school) You should probably contact Colin, the autocrat, for that info. I'm not sure if he knows Malcolm, but he is an old roomie of mine.

It ALWAYS snows at Ice Castle, even if it is only a little bit. But you are probably used to it.

sure can. this is a quote from the ruling:

Participants that are residents of another kingdom are to be considered our guests and are exempt from this ruling provided they meet their home kingdom’s standards. Newly transplanted citizens of Atlantia are to be granted a reasonable period of time to come into compliance with this rule.

regards
logan

I'm also thinking of merchanting. I have a RR track anvil and some various high carbon pieces for tool making. A few various blacksmithed items (s-hooks, portable holes). I have some hand cast medieval pewter buttons and ingots for casting. My lady and I recently made a bunch of candles and she also makes soap. We also have a lot of nice fabrics that we'll never use all of.

For the A&S display, I have replicated the 16th century candle stand from the medieval furnature book using only medieval methods (no welding and it's kind of shakey. It has to stand in a low traffic area). I also have a reproduction of the churburg 13 breastplate. It unfortunately wont be done yet due to school and the slow process of riveting everything to a single sheet of leather. The riveting and strapping will not be quite done. My breastplate will not have the brasswork or the lance rest, and it only has a munitions level finish, but it looks pretty good. Pictures will be along shortly for those who cannot make the event.

It should be a good event. Come join the fun!
