Ok, this is the cuff and metacarpal fron talbots pattern, but with four lames instead of two. Was actually faster and easier than the two lame version cause I didnt have to fight with the articulation so much. Course its not done yet. Comments, suggestions for improvements?

I think it needs more articulation. Not more lames, but the lames need to articulate more.
I like the cuff, it looks to be a nice comprimise between the bell cuff of the 14th cent. and the longer cuff of the 15th.

(on Pennsic) I know that movie. It is the 13th warrior. A bunch of guys in armour that doesn't match itself or anybody elses, go on a trip and argue and get drunk and get laid and then fight Tuchux.

Yep, its binding a tad at the "corners" (where the ends of the lames are bent down) I think they need to revisit the ball stake.

As usual your mileage will vary and everyone's goals are different.
The reason Talbot's patterns were made the way they were is that he was working (at least loosely) from actual 15th c. Italian gauntlets.
They had 2 'finger' plates, not 4. Just the way they did it.
So if your goal is to recreate a 15th c. Italian gauntlet, you can't just toss some more plates in.
Some lefts actually only have 1 plate over the fingers.
Some lefts have the back of hand and cuff built all in one piece.
Some have long, pointy cuffs, some are shorter and rounder. Some are open on the inside of the wrist, most wrap all the way around. There is variety, but only in some aspects. For those kind of details we have to get more precise - which part of the century?
If you are just trying to build a gauntlet that works, have fun. The more you add, the closer you are to the modern 'clamshell'.

Re: still more gauntlet stuff
Im simply trying to create gauntlets that work. I started with talbots pattern because I have used other patterns of his. They are always well thought out, easy to lay out, and give a fair result. Now Im working to improve (and by improve I mean both faster and easier to make, and safer and easier to fight sca heavy in) the things. Im not after a particular period, just safe, effective, and hopefully not butt ugly.
