ABS source in DC Metro area

Post by Sigurd of Jorvik »

I am looking for a supplier of ABS in the DC metro area. Shipping on a $75 sheet is $250! Any good leads on where to get some locally or a supplier who does not get you on shipping?

Thanks

There's a Piedmont plastics in Beltsville, MD where you could get ABS and Kydex scraps pretty cheaply (and no shipping if you went there). But not sure if they allow walk-ins any more. I haven't heard of anyone bugging them in a few years. The one in Beltsville is listed as a distributor, just not sure if they still will sell directly, as they don't have an online storefront to purchase (they never have).
Of course, there are a couple of steel supply places that are the same way. They will sell to anybody, but no internet storefront or catalog.

See if any of the Laird Plastics sources are nearby. I did good business with them in the past.

Important to note: Just because you are buying from location A doesn't mean that it isn't stored in location B. I found that slicking a 4'x8' sheet into 4'x32" sections greatly improved shipping costs. Then it can go by UPS ground rather then freight shipping.

Luck!

I have not seen anyone post this so far. Either people don't realize it, or there is some problem I am not aware of but...

www.amazon.com

Search for "ABS Plastic Sheet" or "Kydex Sheet". They sell textured sheets in small to medium sizes in the $8 - $30 price range. Also a great source for closed cell foam, foam rubber, etc.

Amazon! better price than McMaster and free shipping! Thanks for these links fellas

I'll just get some smaller pieces I think and save a trip. Buying a whole sheet would be more economical, but I don't need a whole sheet. Unless of course there are some people in DC Metro area that might want to go in on a 1/8' sheet of ABS. PM me if interested.

Now it has been 20+ years since my armoury was in DC metro but I used to get my kydex from a place in Rockville, somewhere on the East side of the Twinbrook Metro station.

That was Read or Reed Plastics. Went there also. Long gone now.
