Billy and Charlie

Post by Luca Sogliano »

Before (and at) Pennsic, Billy and Charlie were selling a linen pouch with a pewter opening. I bought one, and love it, it looks great. I did mention, twice now it seems, that it was smaller that I was expecting it to be. It is quite small, though I'm sure that's because it's a period size and we carry far more stuff than they did. Well, I just wanted to let everyone on here know that Marianne, mistaking my surprise at the size of the pouch (which is my own fault for not looking closer at the ad) for disappointment with the product, e-mailed me to let me know they would be happy to let me return it regardless of condition, and would even refund the postage.

Well, they're not getting it back, I love the thing. It's great, and the $1 redeemable "Billy Groats" that came in it were even better. I'm planning on placing an order with them again soon, and I think that everyone else of the late period persuasion should too. They show true class.

And to Marianne, my sincere apologies to you if it seemed that I disapproved of the product. Quite the opposite is true, and if it appeared otherwise it was me not expressing myself clearly. Like I said above, I have NO desire to send it back, and it only speaks well of your company that you would take it back rather than have a dissatisfied customer.

Instead, you have a very happy customer, and one for life.

I saw those pouches while they were in the design phase.

They are small, but they are really, really cute. A great combination of pewter and fabric parts.

Kudos to the manufacturers.

I love the groats too. I bought 20 of them to give away as a ransom for the Thirty, but didn't end up getting captured. So I gave them to my campmates who helped get me to the field on time. Don't know if any of them redeemed them or not (they ea got 2), but I thought they were cool.

They make a great coin pouch so change and sacajewea gold coins don't end up at the bottom of a larger pouch or get mixed up in your bills. After talking with Mac on a previous occasion I realized I was carrying too much modern crap in my period pouch and pared down to 1 CC, auth, membership, license and some cash in a paperclip (need to get a money clip). There is just no reason to cary the whole honking wallet, cell-phone, keys, pager, GPS, wrist watch etc in a period pouch.

I strongly recomend just about anything from Billy and Charlie. (but you can't request custom gold paint on the griffin pins. They are MINE MINE MINE MINE!!!) :)

Thank you all for your kind words!

We are beginning to cast more of the items we ran out of at Pennsic. This includes the purse frames, for those who want to sew their own bags.

They probably aren't a stock item yet.

I checked the main site but couldn't find these pouches you're referring to- would love one. I don't do FB- perhaps that is the problem?

Tom just pointed out to me the recent revival of this thread. (Thank you Tom!)

Our web site is a bit behind the times, but we are pretty up to date on FB.

We have some completed purses in stock, and I am pretty sure we have both sorts of frames as well. The best way to find out if something is in stock is to write Marianne at billy@billyandcharlie.com She can tell you if we have it, and she'll tell me to go and cast it if we don't.

Very nice! I'm guessing these are appropriate to the 14th C?

Strictly speaking, I would have to say 15th C.
