My new Gestech (jousting) Harness.

Some progress shots of the new high carbon harness I am having made.

It is being built for me Alex Scheibner.

It's looking good. I can't wait to see the finished product. If only every merchant supplied pictures of their products as they were being made. Nevermind, I'm sure I can think of a few items I don't care to see in the works. But armor for sure!

The frontal surfaces look a good deal lighter than the real ones. Depending on what you are intending to do with it, this may be a cause for concern.

I expect in tempered spring it will accomplish many goals in this thickness. I bet it is the same thickness as most of the modern jousters are using. The form looks nice.

On the other hand I agree with Mac that it is a good deal thinner than the apparent thickness of the ones I have seen in museums and it is certainly a lot thinner than the one in the Wallace (A23) that I played with while it was apart for photography. Even the back of that one was thicker than we might expect.

From memory there were some pretty thin parts on the arms - somewhere in the 12g to 1/8" thick by quick visual inspection. The rest of the parts were a lot thicker. The only reason that harness weighs only 90 pounds is that it doesn't cover all that much. No legs and pretty minimal coverage on the back.

Hi guys, the front section is in 2.5mmish. The lower section is 2mm. This will tempered.

I'll be using it for solid lance jousting in the US style and historical solid lance jousting with steel coronels.

I have been using my mild steel Gothic harness for the same and it barely has a mark on it, so I am pretty happy to use a slightly thicker spring steel harness.

The brow re-inforce on my helm is the only really marked peice from the steel coronel strikes.

We did think about making it the thicker but I had to balance weight vs thickness as I do travel OS with my armour a lot.

Is Alex local to you or somewhere else? Just trying to keep up with where the fashionable people are shopping these days. Is this new suit mainly a "new and improved" version of your current one or is inspiration coming from a different suit this time? I also see the fauld got a wee bit lower - a most excellent revision, sir. Last question (for now), going frogmouth helm or a field helm with exchange?

Grand to see you've parked the motorcycles for a little bit to come back to playing knights for a while again.

Hi Jonathon, Alex is only an hour away from me. I get pretty much all my armour from Alex these days.

I have either owned, seen or handled armour from most of the top armourers and Alex is right up there with the best. He is pretty quite and not that well known out there.

This harness needs to be ready to go in 2 weeks time as I am heading over to the US for something joust related. I will be using my existing helm, pauldrons and legs and having an out of period tiltbuff and grandguard made as well. This is so I can do the US style and also for our sports orientated Professional Jousting League which uses solid tapered lances against a plate harness fitted with buff and gridded grandguard.

Next year I wil have a matching frogmouth and pauldrons made for it fo historical jousts.
