Gorget for 14" neck

Post by Nomad »

My girlfriend needs a gorget for SCA fighting, she's not planning on doing heavy but rather epee and such. She's only got a 14" neck. The gorgets she's liked were leather with a solid plate of steel over the back of the neck and over the throat. I'm thinking padded with a little bit of closed cell foam and maybe sheep skin for the actual lining... any ideas?

I'm making one very similar to that right now. I can send you a pic tomorrow when it's finished, if you'd like. I'm charging $40 for it. Just to give you an idea on price.

Actually I'd like to see that. If you could email me also (in case I'm too busy to get to the archive at the time) at sirnomadlv@aol.com

Master Geoffrey makes the exact gorget you are referring to, I own one & love it. Take a look...

Well, that looks kind of like what she wants, except because the plates aren't solid (as in one solid piece around the front of the neck) it'd have to be water hardened leather. I noticed that the gap was RIGHT over the larynx... poor design.

Nomad, that's not a gap, it a shadow or something. Click on the pic for closeups, you can see that the front plate is solid.... it's a really popular gorget, safe & comfy.

I also have one of Master Geoffreys', I use the Light Weapons Gorget for Heavy fighting, as it does provide that extra triangle of protection. Fits like a glove and comfortable as hell.
Never had a better gorget.

Does he send those with any padding or anything? I need to take a closer look at the web site.

Actually I rather like the one by Master Geoffrey, is he an archive member or does an archive member sell something similar? :-)My girlfriend liked it too obviously. That in stainless would be pretty much what she wants, especially if the leather is thick or water hardened. She's a tiny woman (her neck is actually slightly less than 14") and I'm wanting to do everything I can to encourage her to participate.
