Custom Helms/Burgeonets - Who Makes 'Em?

Post by AvM »

I've been away from the game for a while, and now that I'm back I'm looking to get armour made.

I looked through my Armourers list the other day, and I found that a lot of the custom armourers on it aren't around or making things anymore.

I know that off-the-shelf or standard designs are easier on the business, which I understand.
However, most of these off-the-shelf designs are 14th Century and earlier. I would like a burgeonet, which is going to necessitate a custom order.

Here's the list of the ones I know about:

Icefalcon
Kitebee (Brian Brown Armory)
Jiří Klepač (not taking orders at this time)
Jiri Lucius (not taking orders at this time)
Patrick Thaden (left the business)
Robert MacPherson (injured, not taking orders at this time)

Who else should I look into?

Don't know what thier current que is like but....

http://www.illusionarmoring.com/cfmHBurgBarred.html

They make sexy later period helms that are built like a tank and have been in business over 20 years.

My first brand new helmet many years ago was one of their Bascinets and I fought in it for years then sold it for as much as I paid for it.

I got one of their barred close helms from another archiver and next year I plan to build a late 15th early 16th century kit around it.

We do custom helms all of the time besides the helms we have on the shelf. We can do a burgeonet for you. Drop us a line with your requirements and we can give you a quote and and estimated delivery time.

What head size are you needing to fit??
I have a 12 Ga body Burgeonet (14 Ga for the rest) that would fit someone with a 21" head....

I love my burg from Patrick Thaden....too bad there are no more of them. I saw that Windrose had one with very nice lines at Estrella last year, so you might try Johannes.

(on Pennsic) I know that movie. It is the 13th warrior. A bunch of guys in armour that doesn't match itself or anybody elses, go on a trip and argue and get drunk and get laid and then fight Tuchux.

Thanks, all. I've sent out feelers to Illusion, Shamrock, Valentine, Icefalcon, and Knitebee.

Armstreet isn't really a go, it's not what I'm looking for.
Tatsuo, I garauntee if you already have something built it's not what I want. Besides, it's too small for my head. Thanks, though.

I wasn't aware that Windrose did custom work. Their off-the-shelf earlier period stuff is a wonder to behold, but I've never seen any close helms or burgeonets that they did. May have to ask anyway.

Any more?

These are nearly at the bottom of his helm page:
