Special Helmet Bids Wanted

Post by SyrRhys »

Hello,

I am soliciting bids for partially finished helmets for our HEMA class. We’ve been wearing fencing masks for the unarmored forms (longsword and sword and buckler), and the masks just aren’t holding up now that a number of my students are really starting to get pretty fast.

I know there are several designs out there based on both modified fencing masks and steel helmets, but none of them quite match what I want. What we’re looking for is simple round-top helmets—the simplest kind possible—with a simple skirt around the sides. No face or grill—we can fabricate that locally.

I want them to be all 18-gauge stainless steel. I would prefer they be welded, but if it’s cheaper to rivet them, that’s fine. We want them “rough from the hammer,” that is, just welded and unfinished—we can grind the welds and polish them, etc., ourselves.

Cost is a major factor here. Our Schule requires a *lot* of equipment (to include a full steel harness, multiple swords, other protective gear, practice weapons, etc.), and I’m trying to keep the prices down to help with the entire package.

I have attached a picture of what I’m looking for. Ignore the grey area over the face, that’s the perf-plate visor and we’ll add that ourselves.

We will need several helmets, probably 5-6 to start and more later. They will need to be in various sizes, obviously.

Please don’t respond with suggestions for products for us to try or armorers to contact—I can cover that. This is just for folks who want to make bids themselves.

If you wish to bid privately please feel free to send a PM on here or you are welcome to e-mail me at hughk1066 at juno dot com.

Thank you.

Hi folks,

Again, I'm not looking for recommendations, but rather bids from people who are interested in doing the project. Thanks!

Sean, if we set up something regular I'll let you know.
