Ok...with the dissappearance of several armouries recently, it seems like there aren't too many armourers who are making ye old basic bar grill bascinet. I'm talking ones with decent lines that don't look like a high point beer can. Anyone? Anyone? WMA made a nice one but he's sold out and last I heard Adam wasn't doing much more SCA stuff....anyone else? Who? How much? What's your lead time? I'm particularily interested in who's making them as munitions grade...not for me but for new fighters. I'm trying to find good alternatives to the spundome football helmets that are cheaply and readily available. It's not TOO hard to convince someone to spend $150 instead of $75 for a MUCH better looking helm. It's tougher to get them to spend $300+.

I intend to be making basic bascinets (most likely for $125-$150) by the end of the month. I have to make a proto-type first to make sure that I'm OK with the design though. I'll be posting when they go up on my site.
I've never been happy with the lines on the Red Falcon helms, and I'd say that the price you're asking (and the price they ask in the first place upon which your price is predicated, understandably) is outside the range I'm looking for, sadly.
Generally, for $300, there are a lot of really dang good looking helms out there. I'm NOT trying to offend...but compare the Red Falcon lift visor bascinet for $350 to a visor globose bascinet from WMA for $330.
Remember...it's not ME that's buying. I'm just trying to figure out how to spend other people's money! heheh... We have people who are lured by the thought of the $180 starter kit, and I just HATE the helm that comes with it...so I'm trying to find ways to get them into the same amount of armour for not MUCH more than that...that's the goal.
I could hit that price range if I didn't polish to the point I do now, which is something I've been thinking about offering. The construction would be the same: 13ga stainless skull with stainless bar grill. If something like this would suite e-mail me and I'll work up firm prices for a couple of basic styles.
I currently only have a couple armour-less fighters, but the reality is that there isn't much for munitions bascinets out there anymore...so I think it's a very exploitable market.
I'm interested in showing helms in this style and range to my new fighters, yes. A stainless option would be nice...and the polish isn't important.
With the re-introduction of mild steel armor to our line, we will be producing high quality mild steel bascinets for around half the cost of our stainless helms. These will still have the same great lines, and lifetime guarentee.... If you want to see a pic, check out our stainless helms and imagine them rusting some day......
HAHAHAHH!!!! That's funny. Thanks for the FYI. Out of curosity, are you going to do them with the same lift visor or have you considered doing a totally basic mild version with a fixed grill? THe bascinet has nice lines, that's for sure...I'm not a fan of the way the visor changes the profile view of the helm.
Glendour makes them, I think for around $180 or so. I'd have to check on the price though. It is one of his stock items, he makes them and they go away at wars.

I'm not really worried about the shirt, your highness. I'll catch up with you in person one of these days, I'm sure. Estrella or Gulf at the latest, as I won't make Pennsic.
So your basic is the fixed grill and the visor is the "other" model?
Gee Morgan you are right. It's not a bad helm, but I don't think I would spend $300 on this if I had it. Now I'm just asking $250 and remember it is stainless, that always makes the price go up a little.Anyone?
I do them for $125 with a fixed grill. Not too busy right now (may also have several at Great Western if I go)but will be out of town for a week. Drop me a line if interested and I'll e-mail pics.
Thanks for understanding that what I had to say wasn't a personal attack, Vincent...it's hard sometimes to voice an opinion honestly because so many people just don't take it well. Again, thanks.
Sorry we missed you at Coronation last weekend - I'd hoped to put a face with the name.
You might want to send your new fighters down our way - not to buy armor, but to our build-your-own-armor workshops. There's a post outlining what's happening over on Research and Authenticity. It seems like a good way for your new folks to get armor that's accurate to their persona at very low cost.
