Early Celtic Helmet
I was wondering if anybody does/can make an SCA-legal Celtic helmet of a particular design? I'm new to the forum so please forgive me if I posted in the wrong place but I was just wondering, I really love this design of helmet and would love to wear it around the battlefield.

Re: Early Celtic Helmet
Welcome and well come, RampantMongoose.
Fairly typical sort of Romano-influenced Celtery, yes. With a finial such as the clogaid type of helmet had; Celts had a penchant for tall helmets. Must have made certain high backhand type sword strokes difficult. For SCA combat, I wouldn't go just too all out with the tall finial decoration.
To the helm maker, helmet skulls are pretty much helmet skulls, regardless. This one would cost some, being a custom piece and not having the standard fifteenth-century two-footballs/two Brazil nuts shapes to the blank-halves for the skull. Expect to pay at least half the price up front; nobody who has a good rep as a maker will touch the project for much less.
Haven't seen that one before; is that original in bronze or in iron? What museum?

Baron Tairdelbach from Cynnabar - Midrealm has one like that he fights in. I believe he got it from Shamrock Armouries.RampantMongoose wrote:I was wondering if anybody does/can make an SCA-legal Celtic helmet of a particular design? It isn't as tall as the original - it has been shrunk to a lower profile to keep it from being destroyed, along with his neck, in combat.
