Mail options

Post by AedenOfNowhere »

Alright, my funds aren't huge so I know custom mail is well out of my range.
I was considering TherionArm's

He's got a good reputation, but I figured I'd ask about his mail before I considered it. Like I said one day I'll likely get a custom fit one and everything but for now I just want something I can use for SCA and for my kid to use at his Larp :P

I messaged him too a few days ago but haven't gotten a response.

I just wanted to know if it was worth it, I mean chain is quite expensive and I know why but I just gotta find something in my price range and this is about it thats riveted.

Either you spend a lot of money, Aedan -- or you allocate hours. Maybe a lot of hours... well? Riveted mail is easy to learn; the tools are few and simple. The work is actually fairly quiet -- a bit of hammer noise and that's it. Time commitment is about four man-hours for every one man-hour butted mail takes -- the haburgeon that takes 80-100 hours in butted links takes at least 320 in riveted, and half that if you shell out for fifteen thousand spacer rings to be the preclosed links. You'd have to inquire to find out how much less than four hundred bucks that would run you.

That much shirt for that kind of money seems a good value.

Chainmail is not very effective for use against blunt force groups like the sca.

It works best I think as avaintails or filling in gaps such as voiders.

Chainmail does take some of the sting out but does not offer enought protection on its own.

For chainmail therion, Atlanta armour, ice falcon, knutt, and drakwood all have various products and options.
These 4 also have customer support and experience with sca combat needs.
Dark woods stuff works for rapier but can have issues with the armpit region on some body types.

There are others but I see them on the archive and have handled their product.

I used to think this. But when I added my Ti Mail shirt, I had to stop using a gambeson under my kidney belt because I could no longer feel blows to the body. When the mail is belted & bloused, loose around my torso, it absorbs a lot of the force of the impact. YMMV.

Under this mail is a trigger cloth tunic, a lightweight kidney belt (single thickness of belt leather), and a t-shirt.

Its good to hear that the newer flat linked mail is working with kidney belt for sca combat.

I've got a c-belt right now and I'm getting a gambeson so I figured chain would be a good thing to add honestly. So I guess I should direct my question to Therion himself. :P Erick that is beautiful chain by the way.

Thanks, Pitbull!

I've been here, but my computer hasn't - bastard died on me last week, and I had to run things from my phone until getting a new rig set up today.

Aedan answered, Euan what was the question, and/or let me know your mundane name so I can search out your email ...

I hope it's a question of placing an order... that's what it sounds like.
