Online Intro to I.33 sword and buckler

Post by jester »

November 24th, 2013. 9am-11am Mountain Time. A brief introduction to I.33 sword and buckler. I'll post the connection information here around 8:50am. If you've got a Google+ account and you have Hangouts installed (it's a browser add on) you'll be able to watch and ask questions. If not, you can follow along on YouTube without having to join or install anything.

What's the point? To show people how easy it is to use largely free technologies to share information on this subject. You're not going to get anything super-cool out of me (although I can give you the tools you need to seriously study I.33) but hopefully some of you are going to see this and say "Hey! That's a good idea. Poorly executed, and what the hell was he thinking about ten minutes in, but we could do something interesting with this."

Subscribed to this topic; I'm going to try and be online for that. That's on Monday Sunday, had my days all mixed up. I am VERY interested in learning I.33, sorry it got cut short.

Having reviewed the video I think the bluetooth headset is a failure. It was uncomfortable, it wouldn't work under a mask (I tried before-hand), it didn't work well at the distance I needed it to work at. Maybe a wireless headset? Suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm going to pull the video recording of this presentation off YouTube later this week. The point of this exercise was to get a bunch of people participating in an online martial studies presentation, not to create a permanent record of my embarrassing myself. :) I have enough of those.

I'll re-present the information in a better format later. I'll also try to get another live online presentation running.

I learned a lot from this failure.

It's not a failure if you learn something from it Tony. ;)

One thing would be camera angle. Its a bit extreme.

Well, in the sense that I failed to get the sort of participation I hoped to see it certainly was a failure. On the other hand, if someone saw this and said 'Hey, I could use that' then it was successful. And the lessons I learned about using this technology and equipment will be useful in the future.

I'm really not crying in my beer about this. I knew going into it that failure was the likely outcome. But I get up, dust myself off, reassess, and try again. :)

Camera angles were wonky. I'll build a better rig for the web cam that will help with that.
I didn't have enough visual material during the 'lecture' portion. And I talked for way too long. All of it stuff that I considered necessary, but still too long. I think next time rather than try to do an overview I'll focus on a single aspect.
Next time I'll also make sure I've got a site rather than relying on a free site that became unavailable at the last minute.
