Who can make me a doublet?

Post by Guest »

Who can make me a copy of this particular doublet? Your version must be SCA legal...

What price?

No sleeves please... and not too much of a belly... I just worked 5 months to get rid of my beer gut...

How thick, what type of materials?

How close do you want it to look like the picture?

If you are willing to go about $200 I could do something up really nice with the fancy quilting patterns and such.

Heavy canvas outer shell, with slight padding, and a nice comfy cotton or linen inner... Silk lace loops around the neck, as in picture...

I want it to look pretty damn close to the picture... sept, of course, not old and moldy like that... hehehe

I also want somebody who is confident that they can get it right... no "well, I think I could do it"

$200 is not a problem... if you can do it.

That one's in the Met and is made of off-white leather with silk embroidery.

There's a pattern for it in Janet Arnold's book.

Hope that helps-

If you are willing to communicate with me on it and willing to possibly send it back to me a couple of time to make sure it fits correctly, I am certain I can do it.

Something like this is best done when you have direct access to the person, but barring that communication is a must.

I like doing custom work like this and love working with people to get things right.

Do you have a set time you want it? I can probably have it done by the end of the summer with my current orders, but I can't say that for certain.

Looks like a fun project.

Email me if you want to discuss particulars, there are a lot of details on something like this.

Gwen...

Thanks... Knew it was leather (didn't want it made in leather though... too hot), but not that there was a pattern... you have the book?

I have wanted a copy of that ever since I saw it in Stone's Glossary years ago.
If you get one made I want to see pics.

2 copies- Jeff and I each had a copy when we got together. It's one of the ways I knew we were meant for each other. Image

Edric shouldn't have any problem finding a copy in his local library or through ILL, if he doesn't already have a copy.

Good luck! It's even scrummier in person- the pics just don't do it justice!

Well, damn, I want one too.

Suggestion for Matt: make a dummy like I have been getting from my customers [duct tape wrap on a t-shirt, split up the back to get it off]. Edric can then stuff it with newspaper or whatever and make a good fit without it being shipped back and forth.

I would be willing to tackle the project in December. I have the Arnold book so I have all the details on it. I would do it with linen and silk satin for $300 without the embroidery or couched cording. I would add the couched cording with silk cord for $200. It is no simple piece to get the lines, the ruffs, and the cloth buttons right.

I would also do it in the correct leather for the same price.

Edric can do it. The coathardie I had him make for me fit me PERFECTLY from measurements alone, and NOBODY gets my sleeves right usually.

Matt decided to go with someone local. If anyone else is interested in getting one, I am still interested in doing one of these.

Good suggestion Gundo, I have never thought of that but will probably try that for my next order.
