Spring steel arms and legs coming soon. Get on the list.

Post by Mad Matt »

Ok well I now have a couple hundred feet of 22ga spring steel. Dak bought the steel and will be paying for a heat treating run in exchange for me making him the legs and a few for myself.

Gonna basically see how much we can cram into the kiln during a single run.

That means I'll have spring arms and legs available in the near future.

They'll be the early 14th century floating articulation type with soupcan cops.

Price will be somewhere between $200/$450 per pair depending on what details I end up putting into them. $200 would mean plane jane no rolls or anything fancy. $450 would mean tulip shaped vambraces, rolled edges, countoured cuisses etc.

Anyway when they're done they'll be up for grabs. I'll start a list of people who want em. No obligation you just get first crack when they're ready.

Rough calculations are telling me that a pair or arms AND legs will weigh under 10 pounds. And should be about as tough as 12ga mild.

Ok I want greaves too but they won't be done till sometime later in the future. Also IMO greaves are a custom order type of item. If I make spring greaves they're gonna be fitted. Since I'm not taking custom orders anymore greaves aren't likely to happen aside from the ones I make for myself some day.

This first run is just gonna be arms and legs similar to the ones on my site although they might have the extras I mentioned. The cuisses will probably be single piece and may or may not have a wrap plate.

Oh and if I did end up doin a run of greaves they'd be pricey.

Sure you can't afford to do a swap for those prints? Iv'e dealt with you before, and know you're reliable... I'd let you take it on the slow side...

I'll assume it's a no, but if you change your mind, email me.

I'd like the prints but they aren't really worth what they're actually worth to me. Not to say they're not worth $400 a pop just not worth that to me.

I really want to get into a position where I don't have to work my ass off to get by. That means paying off my $10K credit line, 2K credit card, and some other debts. And I want to be able to do my charger up.

OTOH if I remember I'll ask my sister in law if she's interested. Probably not since they're kinda broke at the moment but maybe.

Of course maybe you'll sell the prints and be able to buy the spring stuff. I'll put you on the list just in case you've got the cash to spend when they're ready.
