Historic Enterprises is back from Pennsic

Just a note to let you know we're back in the shop/office as of this morning. Francena took an extra day off to recover, and I got in yesterday afternoon but we're back at it as of this morning.

We're sorting through the email (over 1,000- yeesh!) and will get back to you in the next couple of days. Orders placed at Pennsic will have an order number assigned and get into the production queue by the end of next week.

We have plenty of stock on almost all items so if you couldn't get what you wanted at Pennsic, please feel free to call or write. The only thing I know we're low on at the moment are shoes and pattens, being out of several sizes. An order goes in today, so we'll have now inventory coming in.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by to see us at Pennsic. Even the rain and horrible heat didn't seem to stop people from shopping with us, and we like to take this opportunity to thank you all and to tell you that we appreciate your business!

And it was great to get to meet finally, if only for a moment -- and blow more money on fun things.

I've never seen a merchant area so swamped before. You must be doing something right.

I have decided, though, that I am finally gonna get off my arse and lose some weight. There are so many things I wanted but wouldn't have fitted (at least, off the rack) -- the ones that fit my waist would require me to have the arms of an orangutan

(which is, BTW, a common problem in regular clothing stores, too, dang it).

I love your stuff, and will be doing even more shopping with you.

I hope Jeff has fun in England with the jousting! Give us a report, 'kay?

If we can help you out with anything custom, just let us know. If it makes you feel any better, Jeff can't buy off the rack from me either.

I got an email from him this morning. He arrived in England safely and is right now sitting in a friend's flat stitching madly to finish the eyelets in his arming coat. The caparison got finished before he left, and I finished his new silk doublet earlier in the week. I made it custom for him-- black silk in the open front burgundian style with pufed sleeves. I finger braided red silk points and Mark Gaukler put chapes on the laces on site. It turned out -great- and I'm sorry I didn't take a photo of him in it before he left.

He took our digital camera and bought a video camera before he left and I have been promised daily updates, which I'll post as soon as I am able, me being a computer moron.

Good deal! I have great hopes for your success, as I hope other merchants will copy your model and flood the re-enactment/SCA world with good gear at moderate prices.

As an aside, is The Red Company going to be attending the Las Vegas Faire in October? I would like to talk a bit with Jeff or any of you.

Hi Jehan-

As I posted on another thread a few weeks ago, The Red Company won't be at the Las Vegas Faire any more. We were originally hired by the Faire to be the cornerstone of their educational segment and regretably, the Faire has grown to the point where it is impossible for us to do anything even remotely educational. That coupled with unreasonable demands by the management (diapering the horses so they wouldn't poop in public areas was suggested) prevent it from being a good place for us to be.

Thomas, if you're seeing my husband this weekend I suppose it would be unreasonable to ask you to give him a kiss for luck from me?

Sweet lord. Tell me about it. That damnable faire has me about a hair's breadth away from just throwing in the towel and playing somewhere else. They're keeping it open until 10:00pm on Friday and Saturday, which makes for a late, late day. I don't know another faire that does that.

Anyway, you guys were a great inspiration, and good folk. We tended to play differently, but I always wanted to come say hello. Don't know why I didn't.

The thing I wanted to talk to you about was the Hundred Years' War event I hear you're a part of in SoCal.

Murphy's Law functions flawlessly in my world, so of course his banner arrived today and is completely gorgeous. We Express Mailed it off today in the hope that it will somehow get there by Saturday.

I'm home but I'm not happy, as the horrible hot and humid weather followed me to San Diego. Believe it or not it is currently 78* with 100% humidity, and is in fact raining lightly.

unfortunately i wasn't able to attend the later session of jousting. but i did manage to speak to him. he seems fine to me. the jousting session wasn;t as fun as i had hoped it to be. only funny bit was a jouuster falling head first off of his horse.

Yes, Jeff confirms that there seems to be a lot of horse related "issues" which are affecting the "show" aspect of the jousting. Arne's horse didn't even want to enter the tilt lane, Joram was having trouble with his horse, and Toby's horse Vandal was so squirrely that Toby had to withdraw from the competition entirely. Happily most of the other problems seem to be resolving themselves making later sessions more fun for the spectators. Sorry you saw the first session which was, from all reports, rather lackluster.
