Aluminum birka plate order

I am seriously looking at putting togather an order. I have none of the deatils worked out at this time but am trying to get a feel for the interest out there. Any body interested?

I was around for the last rip off so i don't need any reminders. And i dont plan on moving any time soon. I think i would be able to front the bulk of the money but may need some help in get getting the order up to reasonable number.

I would probably be interested in between 1,000-1,200 plates. If we can get a large enough order together hopefully we can keep the cost per plate down.

Why dont you cross post this on the A&D board, and maybe the OT also to get maximum visibility.

When we did the Archive order, I believe I paid $.35 for aluminum and $.27 for stainless steel. If you can get the aluminum down to 35-40 cents a plate, I'd be in as well (depending on what sort of aluminum you end up ordering). Not much though, perhaps 400 plates.

These are my old aluminum plates... 6'1, 48" chest, and I used 321 plates in that suit. Just to give an idea, most folks will need between 300-400 for a short corselet.

Also note the unorthodox lacing pattern... more overlap makes for better protection and longer plate life!

I have talked to Carolina stamping. In interest of moving forward with this endevor i will be cross posting this to the all the archive sections. If you want in on the initial order it will be a bit cheaper per plate but i have comited to make the order happen so if we are a little short i will trying to make up the short fall. As of this posting i don't have pricing but it should be in today and i'll get out asap.

Ok - pre order pricing- $0.36 per plate.
T6 16 ga (.063in) Aluminum. I want to place the order on friday 8/29 with a drop dead date of the following monday. Cash check or pay pal. Send me an email off list, adress in profile and i'll send you my address. Pay pal to the address in profile. Shipping will be extra and will be real shipping, this isnt ebay! I have talked to my lady and i will be coving the short fall and selling the rest at a mark up. If you want cheap speak up and be ready to put your money....
Turn around will be 2-3 weeks after order is placed to get the stuff to me and a couple of days to get it you.
If there is enough interest the price will go down on the pre order.

Please reference the arcive or birka or somthing in your email subject so it wont be confused with the rest of the spam i get that gets deleted.

Greetings,

The SS plates that GAA and WMA are selling are 20ga and they also dent. Nothing a rubber mallet doesn't take out. On the overlap your looking at aproximatly 11ga.

NO! well, mabey. I have been fighting in my vest in the same plates from an earlier order and still no dents. Thats pratice every week, some times 2, gulf war last year and several event since. i'm sure under right instances it could get dented but not so far.

I want to get into this, I really am interested, but....The last archive birka plate group order involved several people paying their up-front money to the person doing the order, who promptly vanished. Everyone lost their money.

Have you any safeguards in place to insure a repeat doesn't happen?

Damn, I hate even bringing this up because it sounds like I'm calling you a thief. I'm not, that's not what I mean at all, but I'm gun-shy.

You know, when we did the initial aluminum order, we went with a 12 gauge (IIRC), and it still dented under extreme abuse. 16 gauge will require quite a bit of maintenance, in my mind.

I'd be happier if we were going with a thicker gauge. This isn't a breastplate, hammering one or two dented plates requires unlacing, which is an utter pain.

If everyone else is happy with 16 gauge I'm still in, but thicker would be better. Weight isn't a concern, after all!

I gave it a lot of thought but this seems to be the best way for me not to front the whole gig and still make it happen. if you would rather wait i will have extra and they will go here and on ebay but i will want more for them. If you want to ensure not getting riped off use pay pal and put it on a card. You can dipute the charges up to 60 days out. Other than that i dn't see a way to not put folk in the same position. if you want to resaerch me i come up with a work contact info at google, a member since like 2000 with pay pal and a 47 ebay rating last i checked. that aside i'm up for other options...

Or rather, sure you can dispute the charges with your credit card company if someone cheats you via PayPal, but they (the card co) will not rule in your favor. As far as the credit card company is concerned, you completed a valid transaction with PayPal and everything is as it should be. that aside i'm up for other options...

I don't really have any. An escrow service would add enough to the price to make it not worth it. The only other thing I can come up with is I could hijack the order and front the whole thing...~$1800 for 5000 plates. Can't say I much like that idea.

Actually, you look like a much safer bet than many of the people I've sent money to. It's just that I've been screwed twice by archivers (well, once--I eventually got my money back from Armour Guy) and I'm a little paranoid.

[Edited for UBB code. Oh yeah, I intend to jump in for around 300 plates. I don't know the exact number yet, I need to take some measurements.]

Sorry on the 60 day thing i wasn't thinking! credit card co's give you 60 days to dispute charges and i was no braining it and forgetting that pay pal was paid imedately and there fore your done with that line of thought. I just got done working about 12 hrs and brain went soft! Soorrry!

Any chance on getting a picture of these plates? I'm still real impressed by the noble plastics lamellar but I'm always looking at options. I saw the couple of armorers that offer them in stainless, but the lamellar is just wrong for what I'm trying to do.

Not Massa G's die. It is a die that was purchased through a group order. Cannot rembmer the actual name of the owner on the die.... would need to look it up, it is around here somewhere.

Anyone can use it. I believe it is a group ownd die having been paid for out of a group order.

Massa G and I simply go on a spending spree and bu at low cost then resell. Beats the heck out of waiting for a preorder that may be a hassle.
