14th Cent. German history

Post by Thorgrimr »

Can anyone give me a list of books (in English, please) detailing the history of Germany in the 14th Century? I am thinking of a persona change and I want to start my research.

A very very dry reading book, but one that I think does a fair job is "The Origins of Modern Germany" by Geoffrey Barraclough. It gives a very good accounting of german history from the end of the roman empire. The publication is centered around explaining how and why Germany developed the way it did. It is mostly focussed on the royal and nobility level as well as the impact of bishops and regions. It's a slow reader but it does examine Germany thoroughly. Having just returned from Germany on a 2 week research and vacation visit, I found having read it helpful.
