Has anyone ever been to the Valeria Museum, Sitten, Switzerland? This is the one with the sweet little round-faced bascinet in Blair's <u>European Armour</u> figure 70.
I am looking for a mailing address.
Could this be Kant. Museum für Geschichte, Schloss Valeria in Sitten?
or even Musèe du Canton Valais, Sion, Switzerland in the Château de Valère?
Are they the same place?

Talbot,
Sion or Sitten (same place different language) are located in the region of Valais/wallis. The Château Valère/valeria houses the Kant. Museum für Geschichte/Musée cantonal d'histoire. Just different languages for the same place
I've not made it to this one yet. Here is some info on the place though. http://www.swisscastles.ch/Valais/valere/default.htm
I'm not sure if this is the helm your speaking of http://thadenarmory.com/basinets/pages/swiss_bascinet.htm but enjoy the pic either way. Hope this helps a little. Patrick

Yeah, Sion is in the area where the German and French parts of the country meet.
I was there in 1997, before I got into armour, but was unable to get into the museum as it was closed when I was at the castle.
I have researched that piece and have found it difficult to get anything other than old references to it in the museum. It may well have been moved to the national museum in Zurich.
Anyway, here's an address;
Château Valère
Direction des Musées cantonaux
15 place de la Majorie
1950 Sion
Tel: 027 / 606 47 10
Open Tue-Sun 10-12, 14-18
I came across this up to date reference to the museum, whuich I myself would like to have a look at;
ANTONIETTI, Thomas.- Neu gestaltetes kantonales Museum für Geschichte auf Valeria in Sitten. (Walliser Jahrbuch 70, 2001, S. 47-51, ill.).
