SCA combat, behourd, and dussacken

so, I had a thought today;
why doesn't the SCA use the dussack as their main weapon? It can be paired with buckler or shield, and although is not displayed with a dagger, it was historically used to train for using general one-handed weapons. Given the representation some people have given me that the SCA is closest to historical behourd combat, I feel using the dussack would work fine. Is there anything in the current SCA rules that prohibit the use of wooden or leather dussacks?

If it is a weapon, it can NOT be wood. SCA list rules won't allow it. It a wooden weapon broke there could be sharp pointy ends to poke people with, or splinters in the eyes.

But you could make one out of Rattan and foam or split rattan with padding like a Falchion.

I heard tell once that at one time it was legal in the SCA to make axe heads out of wood.......until someone actually split kindling with one . since then it has been leather, rubber or foam in some combination.

Hardwood spear shafts, and hardwood handles were allowed (I believe) but axeheads??? No, I don't think so.

The way I recall the story was that a leather cover for an axe was taped and strapped up to be used as a SCA weapon. The leather axe cover actually cut wood, so new rules had to be implemented. Of course I could be remembering this wrong, I do that a alot.
