Whoa. For a minute there, I thought that said "tricycles".

Hehe I wish that's what I thought he said.

I'll be there camping with my household, and fighting for Ansteorra of course. I'm hard not to spot on the battlefield since I'm probably the biggest guy on it :). It appears my unit, which is comprised mostly of archers, will be supporting a suicide squad with me and my shieldbrother being the only two true heavies playing archer protection for some of the battles.

I don't expect to have a very long life expectancy but do hope to have some good stories (at least better than being shot in the butt five seconds into the fort battle last year and being a living pavise for the duration :)).

I'd really like to meet some of the other AAers this year.

I can't make it this year :( I haven't missed one since my first war, the great Gulf Wash, before Gleann Abhann was a Principality.

For some reason they won't let me leave Korea early just to come to Gulf Wars. I will have two squires Martin and Jon the Tall beating on people on my behalf

Hugh, I do have to say that you made a very good one too. I'll see you there and I am planning on bringing a S&B with me. Tell Arkham a six pack of Diet Mountain Dew just might convince me to join you on this one. See ya

I will be there. I'm really looking forward to it. This will be my first time at Gulf Wars, but I have heard so many good things about it.

That's good to hear Iaen, I know we'll be looking to add some more archers, especially since Ironwyrm went and took huntsman again.

I was going and then my supervisor cancelled all management vacations until after our conference the week after GW. :( The last GW I went to was #2 (the last one held in summer as well). Sutan was king....

otoh, our conference is in New Orleans....

Hail everyone,

I'm new to the SCA and this Gulf Wars will be my first fighting event; can I expect a lot of rain there? Kinda worried about that since I want to bring a bunch of hides and stuff. :)

Thanks,
Karl

But that's only 1.5 hours from the site! See if they will send you down the Friday before, and at least you will have the weekend!

Yes, expect rain. Expect rain, cold nights, and hot days, dry conditions. I know this sounds crazy, but the weather in Mississippi is very unpredictable. There has been very cold nights and there have been gully washers. But for the most part, the weather conditions are excellent.

Yeah, expect lots of rain.. oh and remember to pay attention to where you drop your helmet between battles. The one GW I made it to I set my stuff down in a pile of fire ants and barely noticed before I had it on my head. BAD IDEA!

Awesome event, badass ants.

You will PROBABLY be in luck on this front.

On another note, incase you didn't catch it in a different thread, the vigil for the knighting of Jean Paul will be at Gulf Wars, as well as the knighting. :) I believe the Vigil will be Friday night or something, as there are individuals who are attending Saturday only so the knighting is Saturday. That's the current plan, at least.

Are you bringing any Apfel Korn this year....I think you, me, and Lothar will need lots of it to rejuvinate ourselves after a day of being hit with sticks by all the young hotshots.

I'll be there all week. I really don't know how much fighting I eill get to do, I have other responsibilities as well, plus I intend to do something at Gulf Wars I've never done before.... take classes :-)

I missed last year due to work screwing me over, and it looks like they may be setting up to try it again. So Friday, March the 12 may be my last employed day.... I scheduled this vacation last august and it was approved... I think they've had plenty of notice...

For the helm under $400 - check out The Dragon's Lair... We are featuring armour from L&A Armouries, and I believe that there will be a few stainless helms in your price range...

My lady, Katarina, and I will be attending. We are RV'ing it (she is with child), but will be fighting with both my households, which ought to be fun. They are opposite sides! House Bloodguard and Ornhalla. Oh well, guess I get my excercies.
With regards and wishes of health, Vivat!
