Hey Gruber. Aaron and I were talking about getting you to talk about the case hardening you've done. Would the be possible? How about bring the basic tools for that, or email us and we can talk.

-Cad

First you take a Case, a nice Pelican Case, then you put it in liquid nitrogen, that'll harden it. :D

Wait, I know how to case harden, first, you make a time machine, then you go back in time, then you get 10,000,000 albino pigmy tree monkeys to write you the plans on typwriters, then you take the time machine and go to the middle ages, and have 22.3 medieval scholars look over said output from the pigmy tree monkeys, then take the output from the scholars and go to an armour maker and ask him to case harden, once the armour guy kicks your butt, and throws some armour bits at you, you take the time machine back to the present, and show the armour bits that were thrown at you to a metalurgist, and then be told that if you wanted to know about case hardening, you could have just asked Gruber.

DOH!

Yeah, Gruber, please, do tell...

Would there be anyone willing to put me and my friend Kevin up for Saturday night? I don't relish the idea of doing the drive up and back all in the same day....

You could always give TJ a call, he's 15mins from the shop. Email me if you need his number.

PS: I think he's been holding onto a copy of Old Testament Minatures for you.

Unfortunately, it looks as though I might not make it.

Invitations have been extended on the east coast that I would be silly to turn down. I should have confirmation on whether I will be able to attend or not in the next couple of days.

Gruber are you day tripping or going up to stay?

If you are day tripping, maybe we could car pool together- we don't live all that far from one another.

Hmmm...not good.

Brian, could you pass along the Phrygian bowl and helm halves if you find you cannot in fact make it? I need to make arrangements for them.

Sorry!

There were a few of us that wanted it on the 3rd. Doug included... and he will be there, if I am not mistaken. He is of much greater value than me... to be certain.

If I do not make it... I will be sure to get up there in the following weeks and dowload some information to you guys. Should have lots of good stuff from the trip. Tell Cad that I will look into the reserve collection when I am there. It should not be a problem.

Also, I am setting up a website for the group. I will put the video from the last session up. We have the entire session... just need to break them up into smaller parts for streaming. We can go through conent and stuff when I come up to visit or next weekend... whichever comes first.

T-Bob... I will bring the helm and halves to Doug today. If he is nice enough he can bring them up to the gathering.

By Vulcan, It won't break again. :)

Brian:

My friend Kevin still wants to get with you regarding a Wisby coat of plates kit. He was hoping to talk to you about it at the Armour-In. Is that still an option?

My attendance is now in question. It will depend on the outcome of the MN v Duke (women's BBall) game on Tuesday.

If the Gophers are in New Orleans next weekend, I will be, too.

I know this is probably a stupid question to ask, but are there going to be any patterns available this weekend?

I know we have some patterns, and I know many of them are on the archive under Master Cad, but they aren't mine, so I'm just going to give you this vauge comment.

I will most certainly be in attendance for this, and can carpool with anyone in the western/Northwestern Chicago Burbs area.

I have patterns that I can bring, but before distribution, I would ask that I may do so from those who gave them to me (Sasuke and Mr. Rainey)...

Also, Chuck and Aaron, may we bring current projects (within reason) for your perusal and critiquing eyes? Still being a fledgeling in the production of armour bits, I would love/welcome comments and thoughts (from anyone really.)

Yes, please bring projects to show off, work on and get critiques. It's one big happy family. We're all here to learn and share.

I'm looking foward to meeting everyone!

Those two went for $50 each due to the amount of time involved. The interesting thing was hammering the 3/4 stock into a taper down to 1/2". It's amazing how much the material will stretch. Starting with 1 1/2" It ends up being like 2 1/4" long when I'm done. The larger one was made to actually look like the shorter one, but due to the amount of material being moved, ended up being a great sword hilt practically.

I also can do similar things, putting angles on the quillion like my stock items so they don't hit the wrists when you use them. These were made to be like a live steel sword quillion that someone has but modified for SCA/Heavy use.

If you have an idea of something you would like, let me know, I might be able to get it done before Saturday.

I went to the meeting near Chicago last fall and had a very educational, not to mention enjoyable, time... As far as I know, I should be able to make it this weekend too, assuming there's still space.

If I remember right, there were two pairs of very attractive Wisby gauntlets in Chicago made with the pattern here on the Archive... Would I maybe be able to get someone to give me a few tips on what not to do for when I try to make a pair of my own? :)

I'm sure that Master Valerius, the person who made the Black Wisby gauntlets (Magnus made the yellow ones) would be able to answer any of your questions, and miraculously (Well, not really, considering he does live in Milwaukee.), will be at the Midwest Guild Meeting (Which is at Master Cad's shop, in Milwaukee).

Funny that eh?

Well, the Gopher women's basketball team did the impossible, and beat Duke to advance to the Final Four this weekend.

So, I'm afraid I'll be in New Orleans, instead of in Milwaukee.
