I'll add Lee to the list of Atenveldt unbelts.

Actually HG Kynnan from the Outlands was Knighted last summer.

Thought I would revive this thread a bit. Out of the fighters I have encountered here in AEthelmearc, the best unbelted fighter I have crossed swords with lately is Magnus Tindal.

It seems that the known world chiv has recognized a lot of the names in this thread, it being 2 years old, I counted the names of upwards at least 17 who were named as top unbelts who've been knighted since...

Anton
Owen
Edward
Kynnan
Bryce
Brendon
Grimr
Tristram
Cosimo
Varus
Ankara
Oskgar
Mohammed
Ishido
Sinclair
Joycelyn
Marc

Some pretty good mojo going in this thread for darn sure.

Ansteorra right now:

Centurions of the Sable Star of Ansteorra still Rock.

Giotto di Giovanni
Louis la Blaireau
Liam Gordon.
Tarquyn Gateslayer
Ysfael Bryndu

There's a few that are just a smigeon below that list that could bump people off that top 5 if they tried hard enough or if any of these 5 let up a little bit. We have a pretty solid batch of unbelted.

Good Call Ewan. Kvigr has added a His Highness in front of his name since this thread started and will make an excellent Knight/Count/ Duke of An Tir in the future. That's my call anyways. And Wernar is now Sir Wernar and is our Tanist soon to be our Prince. So I would say they have done ok.

Watch HH Kvigr. He will be great. He came in second at Estrella's greatsword tourney. He doesn't fight greatsword.

Yep. If Kvigr lived closer to core and a larger pool of fighters he would be a shoe in for "Duke".

If he keeps travelling he still could be.

One of the single most physically talented men I've ever seen.

I know someone else whose name starts with an "H" and ends in "rogn" that could easily be on this list.

I heard duke Gareth had resigned his belt. If this is true, IMHO, that would make him the baddest-assed unbelt in meridies.

Did they knight Marcus? I think you may be confusing him with Sir Cormac, the other swedish giant.

If Kein's squires Caladin and Esteban keep training like they have lately they will be contending for space on this list (again) soon. I met a squire named Lochlan last night at BG practice who was quite impressive as well.

As for Ysfael, I think he has a rattan-magnet hidden in the boss of his buckler.

Hmm, I notice Caid has been unrepresented on this thread...

I'd nominate:

THL Beorn of the Northern Sea
THL Brennos ap Doolin
THL Reyni-Harekr Brandsson

Duke Dirk's Squires, THL Pyrrhus of Ithaca & Sarpedon of Scylla were both doing real well, but we haven't seen as much of them this reign (maybe due to exhaustion from last reign...)

THL Ian Edwardsson & Thorin O'Seaghdha have both had some pretty hot days, be nice to see them consistently at the top of their game.

Just my own thoguhts, for unbelts on my radar in AEthelmearc.

Alric and Hrothgar - 2 of Duke Ruriks squires
Duncan of Essex (some know him as Duncan Von Halstern)
Havoc the Wild
Magnus Tindal
Dominic (Sorry cant remember last name) But havent seen him in awhile, so not sure how SCA active he is right now. Then again, I have only made a few trips up north, so he could possibly be very active in that area. But a very good lefty.

Those 6 have been consistently on my radar the last year or so. I believe most will beat Pennsic, so if you want to play with any of them, I will be happy to point any of them out and introduce.

Lachlann is one of the most promising fighters in a long while. He's flat-out talented. Learns quick, and is a phenomonally tough fight. I didn't get to fight Caladin last time I was at the FP after Red Tape, but I was totallly washed out. Estoban wasn't there to fight either.

The rest of Morgan's list is right on.

The caliber of Ansteorra's unbelts seems to be rising well, and I'm happy about that.

Of those I have personally watched or fought I would have to put THL James de Lyon of Glynn Lyon on the list for Meridies. He needs to travel a lot more I would suspect, but......

Sir Varus - East

That would be Alric of the Mists (who's on this board - Hi Alric), and the second-newest member of Æthelmearc's Order of the Gage (kingdom grant-level fighting order), the newest being his squire brother Ludwig (Hrothgar got his 2 1/2 years ago). I also watched him have a good set with Duke Darius, among others, and acquitted himself well in the melees.

And I would concur with Finn's assessment of the unbelts here; I got the impression that Dominic MacMorland has gone inactive (based on a conversation I had with him in March), and there are a couple of others that would easily be in that group if they were more active.

BTW, Duncan's in the process of actually changing his name officially to Duncan Von Halstern; a heraldic bureaucratic misunderstanding prevented him from doing so before.

Very cool. Honestly, I have always thought it was Duncan Von Halstern. So when I got the list of our last crown and started working on the fighters in it, I had to think who the heck was Duncan of Essex. :p

Meridies....

THL Valdimarr de Tamewurthe, at least until Tournament of the Foxes on August 26th, then he won't be unbelted anymore.
